Gamecyclopedia - Evolution of Hidden Blade ~ An assassin's deadliest weapon
Foreword
Although in every era gamers will find different assassin figures, ranging from Altair to Jacob and Evie Frye, but they all have one most striking thing in common, namely: they both use the Hidden Blade as their main weapon. It can even be said that the Hidden Blade is a weapon that symbolizes the Assassin Order!
Hidden Blade was first used by members of the Assassin Order who were in Masyaf. To use the weapon properly, an assassin must give up his ring finger to be cut so that the blade can come out properly without hitting (and injuring) the user’s ring finger. However, this makes Assassin Order members easier for the opposing party to know. Until finally, Altair wrote a new design for the Hidden Blade where the user does not have to cut his finger in a codex, which was later developed by the genius inventor Leonardo da Vinci. As a result, Ezio doesn’t have to cut his finger to use the weapon!!
As time goes by, the design of the Hidden Blade is growing to accommodate the assassin’s needs. One of the most useful features is the special firing mechanism for firing projectiles, either in the form of darts or the blade of the Hidden Blade itself, which allows it to kill or immobilize targets from a distance. Oh, starting with the “trend” used by Ezio, using two Hidden Blades is a common thing to do and even becomes a sign that the user is a Master Assassin. One more thing: if the Hidden Blade is usually attached to the arm, some assassins (one of them is Shao Jun, the main character in Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China) uses a weapon called Hidden Footblade that can remove knives from his feet!!
Hidden Blade is even still used by members of the Assassin Order in this modern era, which is equipped with various advanced technologies so that it appears even more dangerous. For example Siobhan Dhami’s Hidden Blade (from the graphic novel Assassin’s Creed: Brahman) which is equipped with a self-destruct mechanism that can produce a huge explosion when the wearer dies!!
Hidden Blade Variations
- Hidden Blade
User: Altar Ibn-La’Ahad
Although the design is still very simple, but in Altair’s hands, the Hidden Blade becomes a very deadly weapon. Unfortunately, because the durability is not that good, the blade contained in the weapon is not suitable for frontal combat.
- Dual Hidden Blade & Hookblade
User: Ezio Auditore da Firenze
Thanks to the research notes made by Altair, Leonardo da Vinci was able to create a Hidden Blade of much better quality so that it could be used in combat. Even this weapon gets the addition of the next modification, namely the Hook Blade, which allows the user to hang more freely.
- Pivot Blade
User: Connor Kenway
At first glance, the shape of the Hidden Blade used by Connor is no different from the previous design. But uniquely, the blade of the weapon can rotate so that it can be gripped like an ordinary knife.
- Hidden Blade
User: Edward Kenway
The shape of the Hidden Blade used by Edward Kenway is no different from Ezio’s weapon design, it’s just that the blade used is wider. Beyond that, Edward’s Hidden Blade is decorated with skull ornaments which indicate that he is a pirates.
- Phantom Blade
User: Arno Dorian
The most drastic Hidden Blade design changes can be found in the Arno Dorian era, where the weapon is equipped with a special mechanism that can “expand” into a kind of bow. That way, he is able to shoot various types of darts to paralyze or even kill enemies from afar!!
- Assassin Gauntlet
User: Jacob & Evie Frye
The most advanced Hidden Blade (for now) used by Jacob and Evie Frye. Besides being equipped with a dart gun to shoot several types of darts, this weapon is also equipped with a grappling hook so that both of them can reach high places.
Did You Know?
- Patrice Desilets, one of the creative directors for the Assassin’s Creed series stated that the addition of a second blade in Assassin’s Creed II also has a clear reason: “because this is an Assassin’s Creed II game, the knife also has two blades.
- The Hidden Blade (present with the name Sharp Dresser) is one of the weapons that can be used by the Spy class in Valve’s Team Fortress 2.
- In the Man at Arms web series, the Sword and Stone and Baltimore Knife & Sword teams have created Edward Kenway and Arno Dorian’s Hidden Blade.
