Here's a Recap of New Game Announcements and Surprises from Square Enix Showcase

The schedule for the next E3 2021 presentation event is the Square Enix Showcase which was held at 2 o’clock this morning. Unlike the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase, this event only brings a few updates and only two to three game announcements. Spoiler Alert: They are neither showing Final Fantasy XVI nor announcing the Final Fantasy VII Remake sequel that many fans had hoped would appear.

For those of you who didn’t have time to watch the Square Enix Showcase event, don’t worry, because below we have also packaged the recap:

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Game adaptation of the iconic Marvel series from Edios Montreal who is widely known as the developer behind the Deus Ex franchise. In terms of presentation and gameplay it does look like Marvel’s Avengers from Crystal Dynamics, but this time the game is made specifically for single player content. So players will be presented with games that are not given an online mode, DLC content, and without microtransactions. For the release schedule, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC on 26 October.

Legend of Mana HD Remaster

Square Enix also showcased a remastered version of the legendary JRPG game Legend of Mana. The cool thing is, they even made a new anime opening for the game that wasn’t in the PS1 version before. Legend of Mana HD Remastered itself will be released on June 24 for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC platforms via Steam.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series

Announced as a compilation of remastered versions of the six classic Final Fantasy series, so far the details shared from the Pixel Remaster series have been minimal. One thing that is clear is that this is not a remastered version of the HD-2D class like Dragon Quest III, but something smaller and maybe just focused on improving the pixel graphics. There is no definite release schedule yet, but Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster is scheduled to be released on Android, iOS, and PC.

Babylon’s Fall

As promised, the latest action game Babylon’s Fall from PlatinumGames was also showcased at the event. One surprising new fact from this game turns out to be the concept of co-op multiplayer elements as its main focus. This is indeed much different from the promotion that used to feel like a single player game, so it is suspected that the development team has changed the main concept to a live-service game. For the time being, there is still no release schedule that has been shared, but there is a Closed Beta (CBT) access registration that you can check HERE.

Life is Strange: True Colors

The presentation session also showcased the latest series for the Life is Strange franchise, namely Life is Strange: True Colors. The new trailer itself provides a detailed introduction to the gameplay concept that is carried, where every action and how you take advantage of supernatural powers always brings consequences. There’s also a trailer featuring a graphic upgrade from the Life is Strange Remastered Collection. Life is Strange: True Colors is scheduled to release on September 10 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia and PC.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

The presentation closed with the announcement of a new game that was rumored a few weeks ago, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. In accordance with what was rumored, this game does carry the concept of an action RPG with Soulslike-style gameplay and was developed directly by the Team Ninja developer. The good news is that the developer has prepared a special Trial version that can be downloaded on PlayStation 5 starting today. Regarding the release schedule, this game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC in 2022.

So, that’s the recap of the Square Enix Showcase. Although not many new updates have been shared, especially for Final Fantasy XVI, Forspoken to the FF VII Remake sequel, at least this event still brings an announcement that invites enthusiasm. The next presentation events that we prioritize the most are the Capcom Showcase, Nintendo Direct and Bandai Namco Showcase. All of these events will run until June 16, so don’t feel disappointed if the game announcements in the last two days are not as expected.
