Quantum Break - Limited actions with impressive graphic
Time is something that cannot be manipulated or contested. However, this is not the case in Quantum Break, a game produced by Remedy Games which, after experiencing several delays in its release schedule, has finally been available for us to enjoy some time ago. But the question is: is Remedy able to “pay” for the extra time from gamers who have been waiting for the game for a long time?
Time is Power…
Quantum Break will invite players to undergo the adventures of Jack Joyce who, due to an accident he experienced while carrying out research involving a time machine, allowed him to manipulate time. That’s what makes him hunted by his own best friend, Paul Serene, who turns out to have similar powers (although they have different shapes) because they were both exposed to the accident.
Now Jack’s job is to investigate the mystery of the accident that happened to him and try to restore things to how they were before, while trying to escape from the pursuit of the special unit that Paul sent to catch him, dead or alive!! This is where one of the unique features of Quantum Break lies, when your hero uses his power. When involved in a firefight for example, he can stop the bullets that are aimed at him, stop time around the opponent so that gamers can disarm, shoot at an opponent who is still in place (aka freeze) to produce large damage attacks after time returns. running normally, and much more. With so many choices of abilities that can be used during the fight, you can experiment with Jack’s powers to find a fighting style that suits you.
…Only When You Have It
Jack’s abilities make the course of combat – especially gunfights – feel more exciting, but in some parts of the game we will be dealing with enemies who can ward off your hero’s abilities, you know. For that we have to rely on ordinary gun fights which unfortunately makes the game feel ordinary. The reason is, in a situation like this you are forced to maximize the use of the Time Crisis-style dynamic cover system, where to avoid an attack Jack must take cover and only come out of hiding to shoot. Because your hero can’t shoot while crouching (he has to stand) then this makes his position very vulnerable to being hit by the opponent’s bullet.
Although maybe this shooting action is not the main feature in the game, but Remedy Games should be able to implement a better combat system to provide a more exciting playing experience. Moreover, because Jack’s superpowers can’t always help, some enemies have tools that can interfere with that power, so they have no choice but to fight humanely. So be ready to find strong cover and shoot at the right moment.
Other Ups and Downs
The fun thing is, all the action of the fight is displayed in a very charming graphic quality. With high quality, you can see the details of the characters or the environment presented in this game clearly. Jack Joyce who takes the facial and body structure of veteran actor Shawn Ashmore (Fringe, X-Men) looks so close to the original. Not to mention when Jack’s power affects his environment, gamers can witness various time shifts, time cracks to various glitches that occur around the amazing Jack. Not only that, the various splashes of fire that occur when bullets are fired or hit existing objects, to various explosions also look very impressive so you feel like you are watching a very exciting Hollywood-style action film.
Remedy also includes one feature that can actually make the game more interesting, which is to include a live action series in Quantum Break. Through these short films, starring well-known actors such as Aidan Gillen and Dominic Monaghan, we can find out the full story of the game. But unfortunately, the application that is less effective makes the innovation feel like it’s just a patch.
Even though it displays gameplay that feels less seasoned, the quality of the graphics presented in Quantum Break can more or less remove the stiffness.
