Square Enix Is Preparing a New Final Fantasy Game a la Dark Souls?

Updates: Different from the prediction regarding the announcement of the Final Fantasy VII Remake sequel, the new Final Fantasy game project that was leaked by Navtra is said to carry Dark Souls aka souls-like gameplay. Some fans then predict that the Dark Souls-style Final Fantasy game could be handled by Team Ninja developers.

Some of you must have heard that the development process for the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake is still running smoothly. The news coming from the director, Tetsuya Nomura, is a guarantee that will increase fans’ enthusiasm for the sequel. Especially with the DLC Yuffie coming to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade next month, the thirst for new content is getting harder to contain.

No one can predict for sure when the sequel game will be shown, but the new rumors that have spread recently may provide some hope. So based on a leak shared by a user named Navtra on the ResetEra forum, Square Enix will reportedly share an update on the game project they’ve announced so far at E3 2021, including for Final Fantasy XVI. Not only that, they have at least one important announcement related to a new Final Fantasy project.

This means that Square Enix has one Final Fantasy game project that hasn’t been announced yet, and as you might expect, a lot of predictions point to FF VII Remake Part 2. The additional information that the game will be coming as an exclusive title for the PlayStation 5 further strengthens the possibilities. This is also supported by the fact that the content of the Yuffie episode in FF VII Remake Intergrade is made specifically for the next-gen console.

If these rumors hit the mark, we wouldn’t be surprised if Square Enix did plan to announce a sequel to FF VII Remake. The main reason is because this is the most prestigious game exhibition event in the world, which is certainly the best moment to announce it. They may be looking forward to a new exhibition event from PlayStation like how Final Fantasy XVI was announced, but for us E3 is a more open exhibition event. The game development process that runs smoothly can also be a strong indication that behind the scenes, they have actually entered a long development process and have sufficient assets to show off.

Of course, all of this is still just a rumor, so for now we can only wait for the latest developments at E3 2021 next month.
