Valve Releases Major and Minor Tournament Schedules for Dota 2 Throughout 2017-2018
Valve has released a series of tournament events, both minor and major, after The International 7. This tournament schedule will be the schedule for the 2017-2018 season.
After Valve stated that there would be changes to the Dota 2 game competition system on July 3, 2017, namely:
– Majors must have a minimum $500k prize pool, with an additional $500k from Valve
– Minors must have a minimum $150k prize pool, with an additional $150k from Valve
– Major and Minor tournaments must have qualifications for 6 main regions namely NA, SA, SEA, CN, EU, and CIS
– Every Major/Minor tournament must have LAN at Final
So Valve stated that there will be 11 major tournaments and 11 minor tournaments that will await professional teams throughout 2017 to 2018. All of these tournaments will provide qualifying points which will be awarded to individuals as well as to teams as a basis for qualifying for The International tournament. Each Major/Minor event will award points based on the prize pool of the tournament itself. With points for each individual, teams can change rooster so that they can enter The International tournament directly if they have enough points. This can be done during the transfer period given by Valve.
In addition, Valve will release rankings for Qualifying Points for players and Qualifying Points for teams. All of these rankings will be announced before the new competition season starts, so the pro teams will be able to strategize to get into TI 8 later.
Here’s how Qualifying Points work:
– Qualifying Points will be awarded based on achievements in Majors and Minors and will continue to be accumulated on players
– The amount of Qualifying points will be based on the total prize and whether the event is Major or Minor
– Points will be based on time, where tournaments closer to The International will have added value
– Roster lock will still exist, transfers during the transfer period will make the player’s Qualifying Points not lost
– Only 3 players in the team who have Qualifying Points will effectively contribute to the Qualifying Points for the team.
It seems that seeing the tight competition schedule and the large prize pool of 14.9 Million Dollars for 11 Major tournaments and 11 Minor tournaments will make the Dota 2 game the biggest and most sought after E-Sports game by E-Sports athletes around the world. .
