Games And Amusements Board or GAB, Requests 3% Commission for Esports Events in the Philippines
The Games And Amusements Board or the body that regulates and oversees professional sports activities in the Philippines, apparently asked for a 3 percent share of the commission for esports events held in that country. This is one of the reasons why Galaxy Battles has been revoked its Major status by Valve.
The Games and Amusements Board or GAB, is an official body in the Philippine government created to prevent illegal gambling for professional athletes in the Philippines.
As we already know, recently the philippines government has supported esports, so that esports professional athletes are put under the supervision of the GAB.
It turned out that, apart from monitoring from the athlete’s point of view, such as having doping tests, especially for the THC and Methamphetamine categories, GAB also issued regulations for organizers to pay a commission of 3 percent of television, radio and so on.
This is one of the reasons why Valve doesn’t like it, and finally revoked the Major status for the Galaxy Battles event which will be held in the Philippines. Which caused quite a bit of news, when the world’s top players, one by one, declared their withdrawal from the tournament.
Many people believe that the regulations issued by the GAB will destroy the esports industry in the Philippines.
