The Walking Dead Mobile Game Caught Stealing Resident Evil 2 Remake Artwork
Entering three months since its official release, The Walking Dead: Survivors has so far received a positive response from many fans as a pretty solid mobile game. The gameplay elements of strategy and survival that it offers are really uploading, and it feels like a fanservice game that is suitable for fans of the series. But despite its success, The Walking Dead: Survivors was recently caught stealing assets from the Resident Evil 2 Remake game as a promotional ad.
This fact was first discovered by a Twitter user named @UweBollocks who uploaded a Resident Evil 2 Remake cover art image with The Walking Dead: Survivors ad side by side. Just by looking at it at a glance, you can definitely see the similarities between the two. But surprisingly this is not a case of plagiarism or taking inspiration, but indeed stealing raw assets by giving a few modifications.
The fact they just left Claire’s hand and revolver in just makes it so much better/worse pic.twitter.com/D4Evzs9KUG

If observed more closely, the background of the character is still exactly the same including the placement of the police station and zombies in the surrounding area. Two characters in the promotional artwork for The Walking Dead: Survivors also use the same pose as Leon and Claire. Worse yet, the part of Claire’s hand holding the revolver can still be seen clearly and has not completely disappeared from the stolen promotional artwork.
This is certainly a very embarrassing case, but we can’t just blame the game developers and publishers. This could be due to cheating from the team working on the promotional artwork, because the other developer staff who are actually working on the game have done their job well. But it’s a different story if they all already know or this is an order from the superiors that must be obeyed. Whatever the reason, their actions have tarnished the reputation of the game drastically. For the time being, there has been no response from Capcom about whether they will proceed to legal action.
If you are really curious about the game apart from the above cases, The Walking Dead: Survivors is available for free and you can download it directly at Google Play Store and App Store.
