Lego Marvel's Avengers - Once again, Legos! Assemble!!

It may have been two years since Lego Marvel Super Heroes was released, but this doesn’t mean that the TT Games development team spent those two years slacking off. Not only Lego: The Hobbit, but we are also presented with Lego Movie: The Videogame, Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, Lego Jurassic World, Lego Worlds, and finally Lego Dimensions. And now, it’s Lego Marvel’s Avengers turn to enliven the world of digital Lego fans. This game is finally released after its predecessor in 2013, and brings new features, a new lineup of superheroes drawn from the original comics, and a fantastical world that will feel both new and familiar.

If you have ever played or even liked the Marvel Super Heroes game, then the setting of Marvel’s Avenger will look very familiar. Again located in Manhattan, New York, Marvel’s Avenger not only presents the storyline of the first The Avengers film but also its sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron. Interestingly, the TT Games team also includes certain scenes from several other Marvel films such as Iron Man 3, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor: The Dark World, and even from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. So don’t be surprised if later you can take a walk in the middle of the city of Asgard, where Thor the god of thunder comes from.

A Lot More of Everything
Marvel’s Avenger is present in an open-world that looks very attractive. With a bright color palette typical of the series, this game also uses an even better dynamic lighting system, following the real time course from morning to night. The Lego world is also apparently busier, with far more diverse missions. Talking about the number, you will find more than 100 unlockable characters, and the TT Games team even admits that they still haven’t determined the final number of the total new characters they want to add. From Quicksilver to Daredevil, or even a character from an old Marvel comic called Fin Fang Foom. Furthermore, old characters are also equipped with new features and abilities, such as Tony Stark who is equipped with various other types of Iron Suits, or the Hulk who can now perform Hyper Jump and is able to climb buildings.

Pairs’ Special
Gameplay will be no different from most other Lego games. In addition to the simple and familiar combat system, TT Games seems to have added new features that highlight teamwork. The main thing is the “double team moves”, or call it double attacks where you can do a special attack by pairing up with 1 other character when the combo meter reaches 3 full bars. All characters can pair up with anyone to do this double attack. But the funny thing is, each character has their own unique attack when activating their special attack depending on who they’re paired with.

This dual attack also turns out to be used outside of combat, in the so-called “Avenger’s Initiatives”. In some locations you will find an image of a circle on the ground containing the symbols of the 2 characters paired together. Using a character that matches the symbol, you can activate multiple attacks to defeat special enemies or even to unlock and solve a puzzle. For information only, you must try to activate all Avenger’s Initiatives because this one feature always gives an interesting effect, and not infrequently even adorable.

The Verdict
It looks like TT Games has once again succeeded in creating a Lego game that will surely be liked by both Lego fans and Marvel fans. Some might comment that these Lego titles, as with the Call of Duty series, are starting to fall into the trap of repetitive repetition. But for the latest title in the series by TT Games, boredom is something you can’t possibly feel. Because in its charming appearance, Lego Marvel’s Avengers features classic gameplay that is always fun, wrapped in a story based on one of the most popular Pop Culture products, and don’t forget the nuances of Lego’s signature humor that is always entertaining.
