PlayStation Store For PS3, PSP, and PS Vita Will Be Permanently Closed Soon
In accordance with the rumors circulating some time ago, it seems that Sony Interactive Entertainment is indeed planning to close access to the PlayStation Store service on several old console platforms. So starting on August 27, the store service on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita will be permanently closed, including access to other purchases for the PlayStation Portable which is ready to close on July 2.
While many players will lose valuable access to game purchases, the good news is that they can still re-download and play all the games they’ve purchased. The removed access only includes the option to purchase games, digital content, as well as redeem PlayStation Network wallets and other vouchers. But at least access to redeem games and PlayStation Plus services will still be provided.
For players whose accounts still have an active PlayStation Plus wallet and service, there will be no effect from closing the PlayStation Store. They can still access their accounts normally on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 platforms, and take advantage of the active PlayStation Plus service to buy games from the remaining wallets.
This news is indeed very unfortunate, but Sony’s shift in focus in supporting the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 is predicted to make the old platform start to lose support little by little, especially following the stop of production of the console.
The effect of this closure is also not so extreme and still guarantees players to still have full access to the games they already have. For this reason, before the PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita is completely closed, now is the right time to buy the coveted game that you haven’t had time to get.
