Twitter and Indosat Ooredoo Launch Twitter Lite for Indonesian Users

Strategic partnership for a data-efficient, faster and affordable Twitter Lite mobile-web experience

After launching globally last April, Twitter today announced a strategic partnership with Indosat Ooredoo to bring the Twitter Lite experience to users in Indonesia. Twitter Lite will improve the mobile-first experience of Indonesian users with a faster and data-efficient way to access a variety of information about what is happening right now, including the excitement of the holy month of Ramadan which is coming soon and often generates a high number of conversations in Indonesia. With less than 1 MB of memory on mobile, Twitter Lite uses Progressive Web App technology which can save up to 70% data, 30% faster content loading, and faster navigation. Twitter Lite is available at mobile.twitter.com on your phone or tablet and is available in 42 languages, including Indonesian.

Together with Indosat Ooredoo, Twitter provides solutions to challenges that are often experienced by Indonesians on a daily basis so that they have the opportunity to be part of the global conversation. Indosat Ooredoo answered this problem by providing several package offers to increase user growth and facilitate access to internet subscriptions through collaboration with Twitter; namely through the Rp 1 (IM3 Duo) package with a SIM card for duo (allowing customers to have a local fixed telephone number in the Indosat Ooredoo cellular card used) and providing a free quota of 1GB for a month to make it easier for people to access the internet.

Maya Hari, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Twitter said, “We are delighted to be able to provide a better Twitter experience so that Indonesian users can be more connected to what is happening in the world today, especially to prepare them for Ramadan as the big moment to come. a few more weeks. Indonesia is an important market share for Twitter. Through Twitter Lite, we hope to provide a faster and more affordable service, especially for users who are facing challenges in terms of connection and data plan costs.”

Prashant Gokarn, Chief New Business Innovation Officer, Indosat Ooredoo, said, “We are very excited to partner with Twitter to offer the innovation of Twitter Lite to Indosat Ooredoo customers. We believe that this collaboration will help the next generation of data users to benefit from Internet access.”

Twitter Lite is a form of Twitter’s commitment to Indonesia as one of the countries with the most Twitter users in the world. The innovations in Twitter Lite stem from Twitter’s decision to pay special attention to Indonesia through research and observations that have been carried out on users in Indonesia earlier this year. Twitter’s findings show; that people in small towns want to get up-to-date information and participate in global conversations, but have to deal with substandard local connections, unfriendly data package prices, and limitations in cell phone memory. With Twitter Lite, users in various parts of Indonesia can easily take part in popular conversations on timelines such as KPop, international football leagues, and the latest information in the entertainment world. Especially with the fasting month coming up in just a few weeks, Indonesian users can take advantage of the flexibility that Twitter Lite offers to access a variety of inspiring and informative Ramadan content.

With this strategic partnership, Indosat Ooredoo will make it easier for users to find various entertainment and sports content on Twitter. Users can directly click on t.co/entertainment to find out the latest news about the world of entertainment and t.co/sports for the latest news about the world of sports.

Arvinder Gujral, Senior Director, Business Development, Twitter Asia Pacific, said, “On Twitter, we see Indonesian users very actively participating in local and global conversations such as Liga 1 matches or international sports events as big as the English Premiere League (EPL), or related conversations. their favorite KPop idol. Therefore, we are very happy to partner with Indosat Ooredoo because of their seriousness in technology and digital so that the Indonesian people can always be connected to what is happening in the world through Twitter. Through this partnership, we aim to improve access and convenience of Twitter Lite with one of Indonesia’s largest telecommunications networks to provide millions of Indonesians with relevant information about the world of entertainment and sports in real time.”

Following are some of the innovative features of Twitter Lite:

  • Supports data saver mode With this mode, images and videos will enter preview mode first before the user selects the image or video they want to view to reduce data usage by up to 70%, making it more affordable for areas with expensive data plans.
