Wings Gaming Wins DOTA 2 The International 2016, Wins 119.5 Billion Rupiah!
The biggest match of DOTA 2 “The International” which set a record as the tournament with the biggest prize in history, which is over $20 million in total, has just ended. Wings Gaming from China became the new champion after defeating the DC team from the US in the final and winning a prize of $9.1 million or around 119.5 billion rupiah!
The final was played in the best of 5. The first game DC won, but the next 3 games Wings Gaming won the match and silenced DC. DC, who won 2nd place, won a huge prize of $3.4 million.
The International was attended by 20 teams, consisting of champions and preliminary runners up in America, China, Europe, Southeast Asia, 6 invited teams, and 6 wildcards. The match uses a double elimination system which allows the team that has lost to get back up and advance to the Final. This is done by the DC team. Actually, the DC and Wings Gaming teams had met in the first round of elimination, Wing gaming, which was the Chinese elimination champion, managed to beat DC with a score of 2-1. DC, which was the runner-up in the Americas elimination round, was thrown into the lower bracket, but managed to keep winning and was finally able to appear in the Finals after defeating last year’s champion Evil Geniuses in the lower bracket final. Meanwhile, Wings Gaming itself went smoothly without ever losing in the upper bracket and finally won in the final.
This top party was actually beyond the expectations of observers, Team OG and Liquid were previously favorites to win The International 2016. OG managed to win in the major DOTA 2 tournaments in Frankfurt and Manila, while Liquid finished runners up in Shanghai and Manila. Team from Ukraine, Natus Vincere are also favorites after winning in almost all major tournaments at TI6 and Starladder.
Wings Gaming was founded in 2014 after The International 2014 championship, Wings Gaming members are a mixture of several teams from China with exchange line ups. Until finally a solid line-up was formed and they looked compact throughout this year. They are Chu “Shadow” Zeyu, mid Zhou “bLink” Yang, Zhang “Faith_bian” Ruida, Li “IceIce” Peng and Zhang “Innocence” Yiping as Captain.
