Yo-Kai Watch - The most fun and enjoyable "ghost hunting"
Basically Yo-Kai Watch has a game theme similar to Pokemon, only what you catch here is a variety of youkai who – at least in this game – are described as always doing various negative things. And fortunately now the game is available in the US version because that way, you can find out that it turns out that they don’t always do this just for fun, you know.
An example is Jibanyan, a youkai in the form of a cat who is the cause of a number of truck accidents because he died when he was hit by a truck. Interestingly, apart from “light” stories like Jibanyan’s, Yo-Kai Watch also dares to include a number of mature background stories. For example Hidabat, a youkai with a bat-like shape who during his lifetime was a hikkikomori – one who always closed himself off from the outside world, or Manjimutt, who was an embodiment of the regrets of a salaryman who died suddenly and did not get to enjoy life. The background story like this is what gives each youkai its special attraction in the game.
Since each youkai is usually the cause behind various events, your job is to explore the game world and complete various quests from NPCs to obtain new youkai. Although most of them have similar objectives where you are assigned to get certain items – which after a while feels quite boring, but there are still many unique quests that you can find during the game. One of them is the mystery about your parents who suddenly quarreled, where it turned out to be caused by a youkai named Dismarelda. But what makes your adventure even more interesting is Terror Time, which only occurs at night, where you will be taken to a dark realm and tasked with finding a way out. Coupled with the big Oni chase that continues to hunt you, gamers will feel the tension is quite high but exciting!!
But what about the combat system? Well, just like Pokemon, in this Yo-Kai Watch you can also go through battles using the various youkai that you have. Your task is also quite easy, namely managing the youkai used so that they are able to survive in battle while defeating the enemy. It’s just that a less qualified AI sometimes makes your youkai often use actions that are not as desired, such as using attack status when he should launch a physical attack, and so on. But luckily this game also includes a feature where we can increase the power of your youkai, so that they can evolve into more formidable forms. And you must admit, it’s quite fun raising your youkais.
