6 Things We Didn't Like About Final Fantasy VII Remake

Release Final Fantasy VII Remake The long awaited one has finally paid off. Positive response and high sales, Square Enix has indeed succeeded in packaging their old games well. Although it was well received by players, there were some things we didn’t really like about Final Fantasy VII Remake. Of course all that is personal opinion and apart from the overall game is very good and excellent.

Spoiler Alert! We assume the game, which has been released for about two weeks, has been completed by many fans. Then we’ll break down some of the things we don’t like about Final Fantasy VII Remake which has the potential to be a spoiler for those who have not finished this game.

Low Texture Asset

In some corners of the city and certain areas you can find some asset designs that have a low resolution and look rough. Especially texture having a low resolution will feel lame when juxtaposed with the detailed design of the main character and the surrounding environment. Also considering this game consists of two BlueRay Discs for installation, it’s only natural that fans have detailed expectations texture the best in this part of the game. There are even some netizen comments jokingly saying Midgar is too poor and slum that they can’t afford to buy texture with high resolution.

Music Overlap

In some areas like Slum Sector 5, you can hear it background music which feels overlapping with the Battle Theme. We often encounter this incident when we meet the enemy and start a battle. It looks like this is just a small problem that can be easily solved with a patch update. But until now there is no patch to fix this problem. Whereas considering this game was developed for almost six years, this should not be the case. Because this little thing is quite disturbing our playing experience.

Secret Super Boss

Like the previous Final Fantasy series, you can also face one of the optional super boss traditions at Final Fantasy VII Remake. For example Pride and Joy Prototype which you can find in the Battle Simulator inside the Shinra building. We regret that Square Enix wasted this opportunity by providing a relatively weak Super Boss when compared to its predecessors such as Emerald and Ruby Weapon or Penance in FFX before. In fact, many players think that the battle with the four summons that you need to fight before is relatively more difficult and challenging than the battle against Pride and Joy Prototype itself. Surprisingly, Square Enix doesn’t provide a Super Boss that players are familiar with as fan service. Let’s say the character easter eggs from past Final Fantasy series like Gilgamesh or even Midgar Zolom?

Side Quest

Number of side quests in Final Fantasy VII Remake not so much. In fact, we hope that the existing side quests can have more influence on the main storyline. For example, tell the expansion background story main character or certain NPC. But in fact, the side missions in this game seem to just be filler very cliche, short, and unimportant. Starting from looking for lost cats, looking for lost children, eradicating weak monsters and other jobs that are bored and can be found in various other RPG games in general.

Red XIII as “Guest Character”

Prior to its release, Square Enix did say that the arrival of Red XIII was only a “guest character”. However, we are also a little disappointed with Square Enix with this decision. It looks like Square Enix is running out of time to include Red XIII as a playable character. But for us, Red XIII became a half-baked guest character and made it a huge loss for one of the most important characters in the game. Moreover, Red XIII’s role in Final Fantasy VII Remake is pretty much near the end of the game.

Ending Controversy

Square Enix’s bold move that led to a split in fan opinion deserves thumbs up. Fans are “split” into two camps that support or even ridicule the ‘twist’ of the ending of this game. Many say Final Fantasy VII is not just a remake, but can also be interpreted as a soft sequel, or reboot of the original game. We will not go into too deep for the ending storyline. But this could make the next game will have a storyline and even a story conclusion that can later change completely from the original version.

***

Those are the 6 things we didn’t like about Final Fantasy VII Remake. Even so, many of us are satisfied with this game and Square Enix’s efforts to bring one of these JRPG games into a remake version.
