The favorite team from group A, namely Team Liquid, which managed to come out as the winner of group A, had to immediately lose in the Playoffs phase from the team they chose to compete, namely Invictus Gaming with a score of 2-1.

In the group phase, Team Liquid managed to secure first place by winning 13 wins and only 3 defeats from Evil Geniuses (1 time), LGD Gaming (1 time), and TnC Gaming (1 time). Meanwhile, their opponents, namely Invictus Gaming, placed third in group B with 10 wins and 6 losses from Newbee (1 time), LGD.Forever Young (2 times), Execration (1 time), OG Dota 2 (1 time) , and Virtus.Pro (1 time).

As the leader of the standings in group A, Team Liquid has the right to choose their opponent in the Playoffs phase and they decided to vote against Invictus Gaming. Unexpectedly during the match, it turned out that the IG team was able to play well and looked very ready to face the formation of Team Liquid. Therefore Team Liquid was forced to lose and go down to the Lower Bracket to undergo a life-and-death match against Team Secret in the Best of Three match on August 8 2017, 06:00 WIB.

The following is an analysis of the match between Team Liquid and Invictus Gaming:

Game 1

In the first match, it was seen that the IG team chose a Hero who was indeed a counter to the style of play that is often done by Team Liquid. The Early Game phase favors the IG team where Night Stalker is able to rotate well at night. Then Tusk from Team Liquid couldn’t do much because the Hero from the IG team had Hero Batrider and Night Stalker who could easily escape from battle with their skills.

Actually Weaver played by Matumbaman was able to get several kills, but because Bat Rider had the advantage in the Early Game and managed to get Blink Dagger quickly, the IG team decided to often do gangs with their 3 players, namely Xxs with Hero Batrider, BoBoKa with Night Stalker, and Q-HHH with Ancient Apparrition who managed to get a kill on the Core Hero from Team Liquid.

The Invoker played by Miracle- initially could provide resistance in the Early-Mid game, but the Alchemist from the IG team was very superior in terms of farming and made them able to win the war and managed to seize the first Aegis held by the Alchemist. At minute 23 and 27 the IG team managed to do a Team Wipe which made Team Liquid lose Barrack Mid and Top. Then in the 30th minute Mega Creep managed to get the IG team and soon Team Liquid called GG. 1-0 to the Invictus Gaming team.

Games 2

This time Team Liquid was able to play well by using KOTL and BB strategies as Offlaner and bringing Ursa together with Alchemist in Mid. They are able to excel in the Laning phase and make them able to prevent Alchemists from farming by providing resistance to the stacking prepared by the IG team. But Hero SK who was able to buy Blink Dagger quickly and together with Riki was able to make room for Lycan and Alche to do the farming needed for the 2 Core Heroes.

Team Liquid didn’t want to linger because they knew that the IG team was stronger in the late game, so they pushed continuously on the IG team base. But IG was able to withstand attacks from Team Liquid despite having to use Buy Back several times. Because Team Liquid had map control, they managed to secure Aegis for their team. The IG team was able to build momentum by performing a smoke gank which surprised Team Liquid. But because they have Aegis and Cheese, even the IG team has to suffer defeat in the war. Finally they were able to get Barrack in the 33rd minute and continued the push to finish the game.

The IG team managed to fight back and managed to kill 4 team Liquid players and counterattack. But after the KOTL Hero came back to life, the IG team’s momentum was lost because of the ability of KOTL which was very useful during war. Realizing this they focused on killing the KOTL Hero first during the struggle for Aegis. But soon GH did a buyback and went back to war, the IG team had to lose and hand over Aegis and Cheese to Team Liquid who finally managed to finish the match at minute 41. The score became 1-1!

Games 3

Looking at the match towards the final round, surely both teams will put out all their best to be able to win the match. It turns out that this is indeed what happened because a lot of kills occurred in the first 10 minutes. When AA reaches level 6 and Hero FV has an Ulti, Team Liquid does a 4-player smoke gank to Sven at Bot Lane. However, thanks to Disruptor who played well when using Static Storm + Kinetic Field combo, the IG team was able to turn things around by successfully slaughtering 4 Team Liquid players without losing Sven.

Even so Lone Druid is able to excel in Net Worth because it does not experience significant disturbances when farming. Therefore, the IG team decided to do a smoke gank to kill the Lone Druid, but Team Liquid had prepared themselves for this and finally each team lost 3 players during the war. After the match took place, finally the IG team became the first team to successfully claim Aegis for the first time.

With a lead of more than 10K Net Worth at 30 minutes, the IG team continued to dictate the game from Team Liquid. Finally the IG team was able to do a Team Wipe by only losing Sven and managed to get the first and second Barracks at 36 minutes. After the Net Worth got further and further until it reached 30K Gold, finally Team Liquid had to admit their defeat and the IG team managed to qualify for the next round while Team Liquid had to fight in the Lower Bracket by facing Team Secret.
