Ragnarok Online Developer Targeted by Chinese Hackers
Popularity Ragnarok Online it is no longer in doubt. Since it was first known in 2002, this MMORPG game still exists today by giving birth to new games. South Korean developer, Gravity, has finally become a big video game company and is known to many people through Ragnarok Online. This is what may be Gravity being the target of hacking from hackers recently.
Reported from the website ZDNet, Gravity was reportedly the target of a Chinese hacker group. This report is based on the discovery of new malware by the cyber-attack security firm (QuoINT) attributed to the Chinese hacker group known as Winnti (aka APT41, BARIUM, Blackfly).
“We were able to extract the malware configuration file and identify the intended target. In this case, the following string was included in the extracted configuration: 0x1A0: GRAVITY,” the company said. “Based on the knowledge and prior targeting of the Winnti group, we assessed that this sample was likely used to target Gravity, a South Korean video game company,” said QuoINT.

The malware is described as “the Winnti Dropper,” which usually infects the victim’s computer and then starts downloading other malware. Until now, Gravity has not commented, so it is still unclear whether the Chinese hacker attack was successful or not.
QuoINT said the Winnti group often targets video game companies. In August 2021, FireEye published a report detailing the Winnti group (APT41) attack on the video game industry. One of them wants to hack the data of company employees by “stealing” or manipulating online game currency.
