Reasons Meta 1-3-1 Becomes Overpowered in LoL: Wild Rift

Riot Games, developer of Lol: Wild Rift planning to develop their esports competition. Therefore, esports tournaments, both amateur and professional, are starting to emerge. The last major tournament held in Indonesia was Wild Rift SEA Icon Series 2021 – Preseason Indonesia and successfully won by Bigetron Infinity.

Bigetron Infinity’s victory in the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series pre-season event got a lot of attention from the community Wild Rift. This is because Bigetron Infinity has not lost in all matches until the grand final round. The strategy used by Bigetron Infinity seems different from the others and is difficult for other teams to counter.

Then what strategy did Bigetron Infinity apply in Wild Rift SEA Icon Series without experiencing a single defeat?

The strategy used by Bigetron Infinity is 1-3-1, applying the Dragon Lane duo which is usually filled by ADC and Support instead moving to Mid Lane with their Jungler. Meanwhile the Mid Lane position swapped and filled Dragon Lane itself. Whereas previously Riot Games had given nerf for the Smite spell so that no bad player uses it when he is not a Jungler.

Of course Bigetron Infinity had tried this strategy before and it was used during the tournament. Team cohesiveness and team composition are also certainly one of the factors for the Bigetron Infinity team’s victory in the arena Wild Rift Indonesia. But is there anything else that is the reason for Bigetron’s 1-3-1 strategy? overpower?

The composition of the team must be considered when using this 1-3-1 strategy. ADC Champions, Jungler, and Support must be strong Champions at the beginning of the game. They will play aggressively with groups of 3 people at once. ADC Champions are prioritized to get Minions and kill when the battle occurs.

Meanwhile, the solo Laner position, both Baron Laner and Mid Laner (become a Dragon Laner) is a strong Champions during a team fight or a Split Pusher. If this 1-3-1 strategy fails at the beginning of the game, then the team will have difficulty when the game reaches the Late Game. Therefore, using Champions Split Pusher will minimize their lag later.

One of the reasons for the strategy in Wild Rift different from League of Legends is a roaming process. In Wild Rift alone players can roam (walk to other areas) quickly compared to League of Legends. Then the damage produced by Champions at the beginning of the game to the Minions also feels still small. In addition, the Minion Wave spawn is also fairly long at the beginning of the game.

This is the reason for the formation of a 1-3-1 formation that looks similar Mobile Legends. When the team finishes killing Minion Wave in Mid Lane, they can easily roam to the Jungle area and back again to Mid Lane without losing Gold from Minions and the team’s Turret.

The weakness of the 1-3-1 formation is experience points (level) to be divided. However, this will not be a problem if the team manages to get a kill at the beginning of the game. The battle power of 3 on 2, 4 against 3, or 5 against 4 looks very different at the beginning of the game. When the battle in Dragon Pit occurs, all team members can be killed just because the battle has a different number of players from the two teams. Of course the team with the composition of Champions roaming will greatly benefit from this.

We’ll see with the strength of this 1-3-1 strategy, will other teams use it too? Or have they even found a way to counter this 1-3-1 strategy? However, until now, Riot Games seems to have not responded to this strategy.

If Riot Games is disturbed by this strategy, it is likely that in the future they will change the HP or armor of the Turret so that it is not easily destroyed at the beginning of the game. They can also speed up or change the time of the Wave Minions early in the game, so teams that roam a lot will be left behind in terms of CS (minion kills).
