Is Abandoned Really Silent Hill's New Game? Let's see the proof so far

The drama that occurred before the departure of Hideo Kojima from Konami may still be remembered as one of the hottest topics of conversation in the gaming industry. The fact that the creator behind the Metal Gear Solid franchise received very bad treatment from Konami’s superiors, especially in the midst of his busy schedule in preparing PT aka Silent Hills which ended up being canceled still leaves a stinging mark on the hearts of many fans. Even though all hope seems to have vanished, without realizing it seems that Kojima has secretly announced the latest Silent Hill game.

Yup, that’s true, so in the last few days there has been wild speculation that Abandoned, a horror game from an indie developer that was announced a few months ago, is actually Silent Hill. We are sure that many of you have just heard or are still not familiar with the news, so in this article we decided to explore it thoroughly.

Initial Suspicion

Ok, so before Abandoned was announced, there were actually a lot of rumors saying that Kojima was involved in the Silent Hill game project. This rumor has a lot of different information, from how the game will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 to the collaboration between him and renowned horror mangaka Junji Ito. At this point, all the information heard online is still only a rumor without valid evidence, so the enthusiasm and curiosity of fans is not so excited. At least this silence began to break when Abandoned was officially announced in April 2021. Exhibited as a realistic horror game by developer Blue Box Game Studios based in the Netherlands, to be honest, we immediately felt something odd.

Actually, many fans have made wild predictions that this is a Silent Hill game, but our suspicions are not because of the cheers of speculation, but from how this game is specifically for PlayStation 5. Now just imagine, there is an indie developer who decided to make his first game as an exclusive release on the console. From a marketing point of view this is a very strange and very risky decision, unless the game does come from an iconic franchise with a big name behind it. Keep in mind that the PS5 is a very rare console, and the fact that the game wasn’t announced as a multiplatform release is questionable. This small factor is the beginning of our suspicion that Abandoned is actually a pseudonym for the latest Silent Hill game.

The amount of evidence is starting to become clear

After not following news about the game for several months, a few days ago there were already many fans making wild speculations from the many suspicious details that appeared on the official Twitter account of the Blue Box Game Studios developer. When we checked it ourselves, we were immediately made 99% sure that Abandoned looked like Silent Hill. This is because the developer has prepared a special realtime application that fans can download via PS5 to watch the game announcement on June 22. They plan to show off trailers and gameplay demos that fans can watch through the special application.

So what makes this detail so important? First, we’re talking about indie games that seem to get special treatment to the point that the developers made a special application to announce it through the PS5. Even high-end exclusive games have never done this, except for one game that we remember did it in the past, which was none other than PT (Playable Teaser) aka Silent Hills. At that time PT was released as a demo version of a horror game with the same name, but the surprise was at the end of the demo which revealed the secret of its true identity as the Silent Hills game from Kojima with Konami.

Looking back at the moment when the game was introduced for the first time, PT at that time was also only labeled as a horror game from the new developer 7780s Studio and only devoted to PS4. Jump back to the time of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain was first announced as a game under the name The Phantom Pain by developer Moby Dick Studios. Looking at the two scenarios we mentioned, you must have understood that Kojima does have a tendency to play puzzles in announcing his big projects, one of these characteristics is in the name of the game and the fake developer who handles it.

This suddenly made us suspect that Blue Box Game Studios is a fake developer and sure enough, there is some evidence that strongly supports this allegation. Whether it’s starting from the developer’s track record which is very unclear and suspicious, especially from the identity of Game Director Hasan Kahraman, to the smallest details such as the developer logo which is identical to PlayStation Studios. Media coincidence PlayStation Lifestyle and a YouTuber named MBG We’ve covered all the details regarding the speculations and theories going around, so we recommend checking out their content for more context.

This article is more about our take on the situation, and how the scenario surrounding Abandoned does have strong ties to Silent Hills. Sorry Kojima-san, but the same way won’t work a second time.

Developer Response and Fan Doubts

Of course, despite the abundance of evidence that strengthens this theory, not a few parties doubt its veracity. They think that all this is just a coincidence or maybe Blue Box Game Studios is just using the same marketing method as Kojima. Although the possibility is not completely impossible either, but again there is some evidence that can be strong support. The developers even had time to express their apologies regarding the misunderstanding that made fans believe that Abandoned was Silent Hill. They later said that they had no relationship with Konami or Hideo Kojima.

Some people might think that the confirmation above automatically brings all these crazy theories to an end, right? But in fact in this case nothing has changed, because you need to remember that Blue Box Game Studios is a fake developer, so they automatically have no relationship with Konami and Kojima, because yes…they are not real or fictitious. So technically they’re not lying, even though in fact all of this is still part of their trick. Even if Blue Box Game Studios is real, why don’t they have a clear track record and identity, including details on who the staff behind it are, and why is the only representative of this developer a Game Director with such a suspicious identity? You can already guess the answer yourself.

Then Is Abandoned Really Silent Hill?

By looking at all the evidence so far, we are 99% sure that Abandoned is indeed a Silent Hill game. Too much entanglement and solid evidence makes this all the more predictable, so denying it is something difficult unless you don’t keep up with the news. Fortunately, all these wild speculations and theories will soon be answered, because Abandoned’s real identity will be announced in full on June 22 through a realtime application that you can download later on PS5.
