AS Monaco Football Team Collaborates with Gambit Esports!

AS Monaco, one of the football clubs competing in the top tier of the French league, Ligue 1, has finally become the second French league football team to establish a partnership with an esports organization. AS Monaco through AS Monaco Esports as the club’s esports division, decided to collaborate and cooperate with one of the esports organizations from Russia, Gambit Esports.

From the information released, the collaboration between AS Monaco Esports and Gambit Esports will bear a new name, AS Monaco Gambit. In addition, this team will also wear a white-red diagonal patterned uniform like the AS Monaco football team. As reported through the social media of both parties on February 9, 2021 yesterday.

Gambit, which is an esports organization from Russia, has 2 roster, one for the game Fortnite and the other for the game Dota 2. This entire roster will later use the name AS Monaco Gambit and use “ASM.GMB” as their team tags in the game.

“The formation of a joint team allows us to take a new step in this sector, by combining strengths with references in the international esports scene,” said Oleg Petrov, vice president and CEO of AS Monaco.

With the advent of this partnership, Gambit Esports became the first Russian organization to do this with an international football club. As for AS Monaco, they will be the second French football team (after PSG/Paris Saint-Germain which collaborated with the LGD organization from China and RRQ from Indonesia) to collaborate with an esports organization. But AS Monaco will also be the first football team to enter the Fortnite scene.

Just for the info, Fortnite is one of the most popular games for European football players, they will usually imitate the dance moves in Fortnite when celebrating a goal. Two examples of those who have performed the Fortnite dance shortly after scoring a goal are Dele Ali (Tottenham Hotspurs) and Atoine Griezmann (Barcelona), and even superstar footballers like Neymar (PSG) have collaborated with Ninja.

In addition, recently Fortnite also held a cross over event that presented several soccer team jerseys as cosmetic ingredients. It didn’t stop there, Epic Games even had a chance to partner with a football legend from Brazil, Pele, to use the “blow into the air” celebration which eventually became one of the iconic in-game emotes.

While other soccer teams are building their own esports divisions, the steps taken by AS Monaco and PSG in collaborating with existing esports organizations are quite smart because they don’t have to spend money to build the division from the ground up. AS Monaco’s choice to cooperate with Gambit Esports is also quite reasonable, considering that the president of this club, Dmitry Rybolovlev is a Russian citizen.

It’s interesting to see this latest collaboration struggle and make a name for itself in the Dota 2 and Fortnite scene. Will this collaboration be successful and can lead to success? Or is it just another collaboration that doesn’t last long? Let’s just wait!
