DreamLeague Season 8 Will Be The First Major Tournament With New Competition System

Welcoming a new year of competition after The International 7 ended, now DreamLeague Season 8 has changed from being a Minor tournament to a Major tournament.

That way the DreamLeague Season 8 tournament is the first Major tournament that will follow Valve’s new competition rules. This was done by the DreamLeague committee which increased the total prize pool from $175,000,- to $1,000,000.-.

Maybe this decision was taken by the DreamLeague committee because in the past they often faced many problems changing teams who suddenly withdrew from the tournament due to the busy schedule. Maybe it was because they were just a minor tournament. Now that it has become a Major tournament, it seems that this problem will soon be resolved considering that a qualifying points system will be implemented to guarantee teams to be invited to The International 8.

Details about this event have not been announced yet but they just confirmed that by becoming a Major event, it means that qualification will be open to all 6 regions in Dota 2 with an open and closed qualifying system. Later 8 teams will advance to the Grand Final at the DreamHack Winter event on 1-4 December 2017.

The previous event, DreamLeague Season 7 which took place in July 2017 was won by Team Liquid with a victory over Planet Odd with a score of 3-2. Now by becoming a Major event, will Team Liquid, which is the TI 7 champion and defending champion, be able to come out again as the winner?
