In order for Cyberpunk 2077 to be released on time, CD Projekt RED employees are required to work overtime

Recently, CD Projekt Red as developer Cyberpunk 2077 reported to have imposed a mandatory six-day work week, in order for the release games it was on time according to the schedule i.e. November 2020. IGN mentionsInitially, the company made a commitment to its employees that the application of overtime was not mandatory. But the policy seems to give a signal that the completion of Cyberpunk 2077 could be delayed.

Even so, Bloomberg reports that the head of CD Projekt RED studio, Adam Badowski, emailed their employees to work longer hours (overtime) ahead of the release of Cyberpunk 2077. Of course, this decision contradicts their previous commitment.

It was admitted by Badowski himself. Quoted from IGN, he said, “I am ready to accept the reaction to the decision. I know this is in direct contradiction to what we said about crunch. And crunch shouldn’t be an option. But we must do everything possible to prevent delays.”

Term crunch itself is familiar in a variety of industries, where employees are required to spend extra time, sometimes days, to complete projects before deadlines. This commitment goes beyond the usual working day, which means employees work late into the night, even on weekends, to meet targets.

At another time, one of the founders of CD Projekt, Marcin Iwiński, had time to comment in his interview with Kotaku last year 2019. He said that he wanted CD Projekt to be recognized as a humane studio, and continued to discuss the “non-mandatory crunch policy.” Unfortunately, this desire was dashed due to the Cyberpunk 2077 project.
