Newly Escaped Alpha, Messy Skull & Bones Pirate Game Development

Remember Skull & Bones? This cool pirate theme game announced since E3 2017 has been in a terrible state. Different from their first target of releasing the game in 2018, Skull & Bones actually continued to experience delays which made fans worried that the project would end up being canceled.

Latest reports from the media my box brings some surprising news that further clarifies the development status of the game. Instead of being nearly finished, Ubisoft confirmed that they had just passed the Alpha stage and are trying to share new details in the future. Although the game is currently in a better phase, it can’t be denied that over the last few years the status of the game has been unclear and seems like a mess.

The reason behind the long development process is because Ubisoft Singapore has encountered many difficult challenges to overcome. This includes the implementation of the gameplay mechanics, technology, and other systems that they want to implement in Skull & Bones, and how they all fit into what is targeted. In order to reduce the situation, even the Singaporean government reportedly contributed to subsidizing the studio with a note that Ubisoft could release new games within the next few years. A support that can provide a motivational boost, indeed, but knowing that the cost of developing the game has reached USD 120 million gives a little bit of anxiety too.

Regarding the game itself, Skull & Bones is the latest pirate adventure game that focuses on looting action and epic naval battles. The main concept of this game takes strong inspiration from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag which gets a positive reception from its very well-worked pirate theme, especially from the exciting naval battle gameplay. This game is planned to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC which will likely also be added with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions.

With the development process that has been going on for a long time, we hope that this game can be polished with better quality. If the rumors about the development process being repeated are true, then Ubisoft could just bring the concept of a pirate game even wilder. Only time that can answer..
