Otaku Adventure Game 'Akiba's Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed' Ready to Release May 2021

Have you ever imagined an adventure game that puts you as an otaku defending justice? This fantasy that may only be owned by the weeds has actually been realized for a long time through a unique game series called Akiba’s Trip. To attract more new players, recently Acquire finally shared a myriad of new details for Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed.

This game is a remastered version of the first series of Akiba’s Trip Plus which was released on PSP in 2011. Like most remastered releases, Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed offers an overhaul of graphics quality and smoother performance. Acquire also happened to release a video trailer showing a demonstration of the gameplay, which you can see below.

This remaster project is a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Akiba’s Trip franchise. Until 2020, this series has recorded game sales of up to 800,000 copies worldwide. Although not a fantastic number, for the size of this niche JRPG game, it is an achievement that deserves appreciation.

For those of you who are still unfamiliar with the game, Akiba’s Trip is a hilarious adventure game where you have to deal with a huge threat from the invasion of vampire creatures called “Shadow Souls”. These creatures prey on the life energy of the people of Akihabara, but you can defeat them by stripping their clothes to expose them to the sun which is Shadow Souls’ main weakness.

When is the Game Released?

Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed is scheduled for release on May 20 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Publisher Clouded Leopard Entertainment Inc. also confirmed that the Asian version of the game will be released on the same schedule as the Japanese region. As for the western region, publisher XSEED had confirmed that the game would be released in 2021 but without a definite schedule.
