[Preview] Far Cry 6, New Enchantment of the Most Ambitious Series!

Entered in one of Ubisoft’s biggest game franchises besides Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry’s name has proven to still have a very solid fan base and always look forward to the release of each new game. Although Ubisoft seems to have failed to offer the quality expected from previous Far Cry game releases such as New Dawn, this year they are ready to bring a big breakthrough through Far Cry 6 which must be admitted looks very promising.

After almost a year of silence since the game was first announced, today Ubisoft finally held a gameplay presentation session to show off Far Cry 6 and what kind of open world FPS experience it will offer in the future. Incidentally, we’ve been following the game’s pre-briefing session since last week and got a lot of material that is sufficient to be summarized in the preview article. For that, instead of lingering, just take a look at the complete summary of the initial details of Far Cry 6 below!

Yara, The Most Ambitious Open World Setting So far

Navid Khavari, who opened the initial session of his presentation, said that Yara, which is the main setting of Far Cry 6, is the most ambitious open world map they have ever made. Yara is filled with ecosystems and wildlife displays to settlements that feel very alive. Behind its beauty, Yara is an island hit by a major rebellion conflict that threatens the collapse of its population. Anton Castillo as the highest leader on the island with his son Diego had a very positive reception from the fans. As a portrait of the main antagonist in this game, Anton has a very interesting character and has complex motivations. This is especially so thanks to the role of Giancarlo Esposito as a mocap actor who does his job very well.

In order to realize his dream for Yara and his son Diego, Anton is willing to take an extreme action that leads to brutal social reforms throughout the Yara area. During the course of the story, players will be shown many important events and conflicts that slowly but surely lead Yara to a new future whose fate is determined by your actions.

Character Recognition

Before going deeper into the preview this time, it’s good for you to recognize the characters in the game. First, of course, is the playable protagonist named Dani Rojas. Born and raised in Yara, Dani is a young soldier who decides to leave the military. He is just a person who wants to live freely and does not want to be involved with Anton and his revolutionary actions. Dani’s efforts to get out of Yara and live freely are unfortunately not that easy to realize, because in the end she has to join the rebel forces who have ambitions to overthrow Anton’s power.

When the game starts, you will be faced with the choice to play Dani as a male or female character. Yup, that’s right, for the first time Far Cry offers the option to play as the main character with an adjustable gender. But different from games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey where the male and female character options are two individuals with different identities, Dani Rojas in Far Cry 6 is only one character whose gender happens to be freely selectable. So this can be likened to the case of Eivor in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Besides Anton, Diego and the protagonist Dani, Far Cry 6 also has several other key characters that you will meet throughout the story. Two new characters introduced in this briefing session are Clara Garcia and Juan Cortez. Clara is the leader of a revolutionary group called Libertad who also grew up in Yara. He is a character who will be in close contact with Dani and work together to strengthen the rebel army to fight against Anton’s rule. While Juan is a Spymaster as well as Clara’s mentor who has long experience. He also happens to be a teacher figure for you who is ready to teach you how to become a real Guerilla warrior.

Yara Exploration

The presentation session was then continued by Ben Hall, who is the World Director of Far Cry 6. In this session he gave more details on the exploration aspect on Yara Island which had been controlled by Anton’s troops. So Yara is an ambitious open world map made in such a way that it makes players feel like they are exploring a country rather than a small territory. This includes providing a more diverse implementation of ecosystems in forest areas, beaches, swamps, villages, to urban areas. Speaking of cities, Esperanza which is the capital of Yara is made with extra care as well to provide a stronger picture of the effects of Anton’s power, especially from how the population is mostly dominated by young you who follow the path of Guerilla.

Of course, Anton’s absolute power over the entire Yara area made him have a large power base throughout the area. If you are familiar with the previous Far Cry games, then every time you explore there will always be threats from enemy troops to their defense camp which can be easy targets to master. But specifically in Far Cry 6, Ubisoft wants to make the military power of this new antagonist even more intimidating. One example is how if you fly using a plane or helicopter in an area with a certain altitude, later there can be an unexpected attack from the Anton Flak cannon which is always lurking in the air.

To make it easier for players to carry out reconnaissance operations or want to avoid threats from Anton’s troops, this game has provided the Guerilla Path which is a kind of secret access path that is spread and interconnected throughout the island of Yara. This branching path is very important to take advantage of because there will be many advantages that players can get. In addition to walking, as usual you can also explore by vehicle and even ride horses too. The point is that there are many familiar elements that you will encounter in this game, but not a few new concepts and additional mechanisms that make it really feel like a fresh Far Cry game.

Talking about providing a fresh and more interesting experience, the developer also touches on the pattern of playing activities when mastering the camp. In Far Cry 6 later the Base Camp of Anton’s troops will feel more varied and are public facilities that are controlled, for example, such as schools, TV stations, museums, agricultural land or gardens and many more. The addition of new features in it also guarantees a more exciting and not monotonous playing experience.

Become a True Guerilla Figure to Creative Weapon Customization

To give a real impression of playing as a Guerrilla troop, in Far Cry 6 Ubisoft tries to realize the concept of “Resolver Philosophy”. This is something that does exist in the real world, something that was born in Cuba, to be precise. This concept has the meaning of problem solving, resource utilization and creativity. Because the island of Cuba has been locked away from the outside world for so long, Cubans are used to creating things from what they can. And in Far Cry 6, the Guerilla warriors trained by Juan have a similar philosophy, only Juan also teaches them to take it to a higher level like making a big mess.

This concept is then also rooted in the gameplay in Far Cry 6, where you are given very diverse and complex customization options to turn your character into a monster on the battlefield. Whether it’s to occupy enemy bases in hiding or frontally, there is always the best equipment option that you can choose to support your every action. Apart from the gameplay concept which gives absolute freedom, we don’t see any drastic changes in terms of gun play and gameplay because yes, this is a Far Cry game as we are used to playing.

One additional point that we want to discuss is the weapon customization portion, because Far Cry 6 has at least 49 Military Grade weapons that can be freely collected and modified. In addition to being able to provide standard attachments such as Scope, Laser Pointer and the like, the customization option that interests us the most lies in the type of Resolver weapon that you can have. The resolver itself is a type of weapon that utilizes a variety of unusual objects as its components. Simply put, this is a DIY-based set of weapons rooted in the “Resolver Philosophy” concept we mentioned above, where Guerilla warriors must be able to utilize whatever resources they have as their weapon.

There are various additional information that we would like to discuss, but all of the points above are what we think is a portion of new content that makes Far Cry 6 feel different from the previous series. Oh yes, the Pet aka Companion system also happens to be back in this series with a new name Amigos. If in Far Cry 5 we were only given the option to have normal pets like Dogs, Far Cry 6 provided a more extreme option and made us very interested, namely the cool man-eating Crocodile pet which can be dressed up in tiny costumes.

Conclusion

Seeing the portion of content that has been shown by Far Cry 6 so far, our interest and enthusiasm for this game has increased dramatically. Starting from the storyline with an antagonist who has the potential to be the best in this series, the most ambitious open world setting with a tropical feel attached to the classic Far Cry series, to a gameplay system that gives absolute and fundamental freedom to the real concept of the Guerilla warrior figure. actually. While we’d like to take things more critically, the intense interest in Far Cry 6 is something that’s really real.

Despite our positive response to Far Cry 6, there are some early criticisms we’d like to give. The first relates to the main character options which we think are much better if made into one gender only. Whether it’s a man or a woman, it doesn’t matter, because the figure of Dani Rojas will feel more iconic if it is made into a character with a clear identity instead of a custom character that can be changed gender in every playthrough. While the second criticism relates to the quality of the graphics which do not bring such a significant overhaul. Seeing as how this is a Far Cry game that is also devoted to next-gen consoles, we honestly expect a quality improvement that makes it feel even more different.

When is the Game Released?

For those of you who can’t wait for Far Cry 6, this game will soon be released on October 7th on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Stadia and PC.
