Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Film Series Showcases New Trailer, Ready to Release in July!
Announced as a Netflix original series that adapts stories from the popular Capcom game franchise, Resident Evil: Inifinite Darkness so far looks quite promising, especially from the story theme which seems to focus more on horror elements. To increase fans’ enthusiasm for the screening of the film, which is scheduled to arrive this year, Netflix has released a new trailer showing off the main characters who star in the film, namely Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield.
This new trailer provides a clearer snippet of the film’s main story, including the conflicts or tasks that Leon and Claire are facing. Although no popular characters have been added, such as Ada Wong or Chris Redfield, for example, this trailer at least shows the figure of the president of the United States who is Ashley’s father in Resident Evil 4 as well as the certainty of a release schedule in July 2021. Netflix also coincidentally released a short interview with director Eiichiro Hasumi and composer Yugo Kanno, where they discussed his opportunities to work on a series that is now 25 years old. Hasumi said that being able to be involved in this project is an opportunity that gives him more joy than pressure, where he ensures that the quality of the film can satisfy fans’ expectations, especially from the character designs.
Leon and Claire are certainly two characters who have become iconic stars in the Resident Evil franchise, just like how Leon is very well known for his role in Resident Evil 4 which many fans recognize as the best game in the series. Hasumi then explained how he wanted to bring these two favorite characters to Infinite Darkness.
“Following the direction of executive producer Kobayashi, we decided to bring Leon as a character who seemed more cynical than Claire. The events in the film take place in 2006, when he was still a young man with a high sense of justice and 2014 when he was tired as seen in Resident Evil: Vendetta. The suit costume he wears is also a symbol of this position.”
Turning to Yugo Kanno who plays the role of composer, he ensures that he will fill his duties to create music that can blend in perfectly with the world of Resident Evil. In order to achieve the quality that meets the expectations of fans, Kanno has studied the Resident Evil series more deeply and tried to create a new atmosphere through a trial-and-error process. Knowing very well that this is an original project from Netflix, Kanno is also focused on working on it on a Hollywood scale so that it can be better received by fans in the western region.
“Through my conversation with director Hasumi for the music demo in the first trailer, I realized that even though this is a project that focuses on horror themes, it’s not Resident Evil that relies too much on music to bring a gripping effect. However, it also has to still provide a terrible sensation, so I try to maintain a balance through a trial-and-error process.”
Even though it is a CG anime film, Kanno said that his experience is not much different from his role as a composer in other projects. He even seemed to have just realized in his interview session that the project he was working on was an animated film series.
Regarding the story in the film itself, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness takes place in 2006 where Leon is in a group invited to the White House to investigate a case. But a tragedy arose after Leon and the SWAT team were surrounded by hordes of bloodthirsty zombies. Meanwhile, Claire is involved in the investigation of a mysterious image made by a small child who is a victim of a deadly viral infection. This is where Claire’s investigation and the tragedy Leon must face in the White House connect and become a bigger disaster.
When is the Movie Showing?
As information from the new trailer, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will air in July 2021. More information about the film will be announced once there is a new update.
