Riot Game Announces Valorant's 14th Agent: Yoru

Riot Games brings a new addition to the contemporary FPS game Valorant. The leaked update that had circulated among fans turned out to be true. Yoru joins as the 14th Agent in Episode 2: Act 1.

Yoru is a duelist from Japan who combines invisibility, breaking through time and space to pass through the Middle Earth dimension and take down his enemies.

Valorant Episode 2: Act 1 starts off very interestingly. The presence of Yoru as the 14th agent will join the fight on Future Earth. Yoru becomes the fifth duelist on Valorant.

“Japanese native Yoru is tearing a hole straight through reality to infiltrate an invisible enemy line,” Riot describes the new agent. “Using deception and aggression in equal measure, he takes down every target before they know where to look.”

This agent was leaked in December, and there was even an Icebox teaser that featured an invisible trail. However, Yoru came out of his shadow in Episode 2: Act 1.

Yoru Abilities

Ability 1 — Fakeout: EQUIP echo that mimics footsteps when activated. FIRE to activate and send echo forward. ALT FIRE to place the echo in its place. USE inactive echo to send it forward.

Ability 2 — Gatecrash: EQUIP to take advantage of the rift tether. FIRE to send moorings forward. ALT FIRE to mount the tether in place. TURN ON to teleport to a mooring location.

Signature Ability — Blind side: EQUIP to tear unstable dimensional fragments from reality. FIRE to throw shards, activating a flash that will explode upon colliding with a hard surface.

Ultimate Ability — Dimensional Drift: EQUIP a mask that can see between dimensions. FIRE drifts into the Yoru dimension, unable to be affected or seen by enemies from outside.

Riot designed Yoru as a “silent infiltration”, giving players the tools to “create really fun moments throughout the game”.

“The idea of ’Hidden Infiltration’ was something we played with for years, but would never fit into the game. We felt that if we started from scratch, we could create an Agent that revolves around the idea of ’Hidden Infiltration’ in some way,” said character lead John Goscicki.

“We also want Yoru to be an Agent who can create really fun moments throughout the game. The kind of spin where if you do everything right, you feel like the greatest player ever.”

“A lot of times you find yourself as a Solo player, setting things up for your team without them. Given that we took inspiration from the rebellious bad boy archetype, the guy you love to hate, something about him makes you want to fix it, but it really isn’t,” added Goscicki.

Yoru Release Date

Yoru will be released in Episode 2 on January 12, 2021. The major Valorant Update in Early 2021 will not feature a new Map, but will have a number of new content, including a new Battle Pass and a Run It Back Skin Bundle.
