The Last of Us is reportedly getting a PlayStation 5 remake

If there’s one thing that makes PlayStation stand out as one of the best console platforms today, then the answer definitely lies in its consistency in bringing a myriad of quality exclusive games. Of the many exclusive games, the name The Last of Us is certainly the most widely known, because this franchise has been a huge hit and has been included in the ranks of the best games in the last decade.

Now that it has officially released the sequel to The Last of Us Part II, which is quite controversial even though it still ends up as Game of the Year 2020, it is reported that Naughty Dog is preparing a remake of the original game. Yup, that’s right, a remake, so this is not just an ordinary remaster project as it already is, but a re-design project to revive the original game with the best quality on PlayStation 5.

This information comes from a recent report by Bloomberg media, which also happens to be from the well-known journalist Jason Schreier. Based on the information shared, there is a team within Sony led by Michael Mumbauer and involved in the remake project of The Last of Us. Sony gave the green light for this project despite obstacles such as how the project was deemed too expensive, to how Mumbauer and his team were called in to help complete the sequel which was then postponed to 2020.

The remake project, which is codenamed T1X, is reportedly still being worked on at Sony, but now they are shifting its development to Naughty Dog. If this news is legit, then it could be that the game announcement will arrive closer than predicted, or it could be at the State of Play or the next big presentation event.

For those of you who are interested in the original game, The Last of Us is already available in a remastered version along with its sequel on PlayStation 4. You can still play both games on PlayStation 5 with backward compatibility support.
