10 Entertaining Hollywood Video Game Adaptations
Ahead of the release Marvel’s Avengers based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film series this September, is the opposite of the usual. Since 1993 where Hollywood adapted Super Mario Bros. to the big screen which is arguably a failure, game publishers and film studios do not stop releasing film adaptations of video game franchises.
Some films try to be loyal and adapt to the visuals and the world of video games, such as Street Fighter, Hitman, and Doom. Some movies sometimes just take the title and create a new story, like Siege Dungeon and the average Uwe Boll’s other films. This gives a stigma to the fans’ assessment of cinema films adapting a video game.
But not all adaptations always fail, some films get pretty good reviews and generate substantial profits. The names of famous actors sometimes help with this success, and the films have stories that appeal to even non-video game fans. 1. Mortal Kombat (1995)
After Double Dragon and Street Fighter in 1994, cinema films Mortal Kombat was made when the fighting genre was on the rise. Sourced from Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat II, we can see Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Sub-Zero, Scorpion and other characters come to life. With the success of the film franchise series Resident Evil owned by Capcom, Konami’s competitors are also interested in releasing their wide-screen horror series. 7. Assassin’s Creed (2021)
