5 Less Popular Video Game Consoles
Ever heard of the consoles below?
You must know big names like Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo with each of its flagship consoles which are successful and even in demand in the market. But it turns out that it’s not only the famous names that make a video game console. Actually there are many companies that make video game consoles, but for some reason, their video game consoles are less popular among gamers.
Well, GameFever has several names for video game consoles that are less popular or you’ve never even heard of. Here is the list:
1. Atari Lynx (1989)
The Atari Lynx is a video game console created by Atari Corporation in 1989 with the release of Nintendo’s GameBoy. Even though they were “born” together, the Atari Lynx actually dimmed in the market. In fact, the Atari Lynx was reinforced with a colored backlit on the screen which was not owned by GameBoy at that time.
2. Philips CD-i (1991)
The Philips CD-i was released in 1991 made by Philips, Sony and Magnavox and became the first console to support compact discs as games. However, this Philips CD-i was introduced as a home device instead of being introduced as a video game console.
3. 3DO (1993)
Full name 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, this console was made in 1993 and still uses compact discs as its games. However, because of the high price at that time and unable to compete with Sega and Nintendo in the market, this console was sinking even more and only lasted 3 years before 3DO production was discontinued.
4. Nintendo Virtual Boy (1995)
Nintendo Virtual Boy can be called Virtual Reality technology nowadays, or maybe Virtual Boy is indeed the foundation for the “birth” of VR technology. The Nintendo Virtual Boy only sold less than 800,000 copies. The marketing factor is said to be a factor in the virtual boy’s lack of popularity in the market.
5. Nintendo 64DD (1999)
Just like the Nintendo Virtual Boy, Nintendo 64DD is an add-on for the Nintendo 64 console. The factor that makes Nintendo 64DD less popular is the use of magnetic disks where the console that was in that year, the use of compact discs has been widely applied because the price is cheap and can store more data.
