Adroit Esports Disbanded! Is Dota 2 Sign in SEA Getting Dead?
The Philippines-based organization Adroit Esports has suspended all of its operations and disbanded its team due to financial problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was announced in the Adroit Esports Facebook post on November 14, 2020.
“It is with a heavy heart that we must inform the community that we have disbanded the entire roster and staff,” wrote Adroit Esports.
“Everything big or small, must come to an end. Sacrifices have been given by the whole team to stay afloat, but the pandemic situation has brought us to the unavoidable,” he added.
The list of Adroit’s disbanded roster includes:
- Justine “Tino” Grimaldo
- Nicholson “Mac” Villanueva
- Nikko “Nikko” Bilocura
- Marvin “Boombacs” Rushton
- Bryle “cml” Alviso
Adroit Esports is one of the oldest esports organizations, which brought the Dota 2 team and was named the best team for winning the gold medal at the SEA Games. They themselves can also be considered as tough rivals for the Indonesian Dota 2 team and the entire Southeast Asian region.
When TI 9 ended, Adroit also had time to secure positions in the ML Chengdu Major and ESL One Los Angeles. Although in the end did not succeed in winning the Dota 2 event.
The tournament they last participated in was DOTA Summit 13, where they ended up in sixth place, losing to Boom Esports. Indeed lately, their Dota 2 team seems to be struggling to occupy the top position. Especially when Nastumi- and Bok left the team for Zerothreetwo Dota.
Not just Adroid. More and more Dota 2 teams are disbanding at this time. Starting from Geek Fam and Reality Rift in Southeast Asia. Something similar happened in the NA region, where Chaos Esports and CR4ZY released their Dota 2 roster.
Evil Geniuses itself also seems to be less active since this September. Meanwhile, Team Unique also took steps to disband its team recently.

What will happen to Dota 2 in the future?
Since the pandemic hit the world, Dota 2 DPC had to stop. There is no minor or major, let alone The International 2020 which should be routinely run every August.
It seems that Valve itself has made less effort in addressing this problem. Even based on sources, Valve had rejected the Chinese government’s offer to host TI10 in China.
Hopefully Valve can immediately intervene and deal with this problem, so that the Dota 2 community can grow!
