Epic Games Store Launcher Makes Laptop Battery Wasteful?

Epic Games’ efforts to continue to compete with Valve as a digital game store platform deserves thumbs up. Although this effort is still ongoing, it seems that controversy has also come together. And most recently, the Epic Games Store launcher was “accused” of draining laptop battery power.

This news comes from an accidental discovery by PC World. They are testing the latest Tiger Lake processor on the Microsoft Surface Pro 7+. That’s when they were confused because they found inconsistent laptop battery power. After investigating it turned out that they found that the Epic Games Store application, which was still running, was hiding in the taskbar and have a drastic effect on battery life.

PC World also tried again with a new method and found that the Epic Games Store launcher was indeed the source. When tested in Airplane Mode, PC World found that battery life on the Pro 7+ was down to 20% (approximately two hours) than it should have been when the Epic Games Store was on. They also tested it with Steam, but did not find anything similar.

Epic Games immediately responded to this problem and immediately contacted PC World via email. They claim that they are still working on improving the Epic Games Store. Including reducing the power consumption required for the Epic Games Store launcher.

For those of you who are still using a laptop and there is an Epic Games Store, it never hurts to check. If so, it’s best if your Epic Games Store launcher doesn’t need to be activated when it’s not needed.
