[TGS 2021] Predator Hunting Grounds First Impressions - Asymmetric Back to Basic
Asymmetric survival maybe it’s not something that is rarely heard in the world of video games. Games like Dead By Daylight, Identity V, and Friday The 13th is an example of a game that adheres to the style of play Asymmetric survivall.
This formula is unique in that one player will face many other players who are usually weaker. The dynamic that occurs in one game is that one character becomes the hunter, then the rest becomes the prey. More often than not the hunter can’t be hurt or defeated, can only be blocked or temporarily stopped.
Predators Hunting Ground wants to remove that stigma from genre the. Developers want to develop this game more skills and the abilities of each player that make the dynamics of hunter and prey something that can change at any time.
First impression
In the test session that we had at the 2021 Tokyo Game Show yesterday, my colleagues and I were given the honor to try this game firsthand. At the beginning of the session, I personally still had a little doubt that this game would have a better fate than Evolve, but my thoughts changed when I experienced the game myself.
One of the reasons that make a game asymmetric survival fun is when both parties feel their contribution to the game is paying off. When the hunter manages to set a trap or when the prey manages to complete a task without getting caught are the little moments that make this genre fun.
Balancing the dynamics of these two sides is the most difficult challenge in the game asymmetric survival and Illfonic seems to be heading in the right direction.
My game as a Predator is quite different when compared to when I was survivor or in this case special forces soldiers. Predators can navigate the trees and use cloakits special. While the survivor only equipped with human weaponry.
Predator is played with perspective third person, whereas survivor play with point of view first person. Predator’s job is to kill all survivor, while para survivor must complete several missions before finally being picked up by a helicopter. The difference stops here and everything that happens from the beginning to the end of a stage can be turned 180 degrees.
Predators can also be hunted.
Common things in games asymmetric survival is usually para survivor only have one way to win. In Predator Hunting Grounds, survivor have many ways to win. From here alone, it is felt that the motivation of each player may be divided. But this freedom can make each game feel varied. Instead of completing the task, the survivor can even hunt back the predator.
Although equipped with a variety of cutting-edge equipment, the Predator will still face four people. One mistake can be fatal. I immediately felt this in the test.
In the first session the predators managed to finish us off very easily. Another player who happened to be my comrade, managed to cleverly use cloak and plasmacaster to break the group from a distance. After we were killed one by one, the game was over.
The second session started and now we are much more proactive. All the players started to move according to the formation, no more scattered. Everything we see, we report. Good at in-game using the system ping or just say.
The second game became much more coordinated and we ended up chasing the Predator instead. These changes provide an important variation to the game asymmetric survival as Predator Hunting Ground.
Not only will it motivate each player, each game will feel unique. Predators may have advanced powers, but fighting against four heads still requires strategy especially when the hunter has a life that can run out.
Conclusion.
Overall I’m quite impressed by Predator Hunting Grounds. From the different points of view to the dynamic motivation of the game. All these things give me a gaming experience coop exciting.
I expect a lot when this game is released later. Hopefully there will be more variations of new games that are different from the games asymmetric survival other.
