Trump and US politicians blame video games for shootings that killed 29
Recently there has been a mass shooting incident in the United States that has attracted a lot of attention from around the world. The incident occurred in two different places, namely in El Poso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.
The mass shooting took place Saturday at a Walmart in El Poso, Texas. In the incident, as many as 20 people were declared dead. Even more painful, the culprit is a 20-year-old young man named Patrick Crusius. The local police suspect the shooting was based on a deep hatred of Mexicans who came to America, both legal immigrants and undocumented immigrants.
On the same day and only 13 hours later, another mass shooting occurred in Dayton, Ohio. The perpetrator was a 24-year-old youth named Connor Betts, who was shot dead on the spot by police officers. Connor’s shooting at a club killed nine people.
President Trump, who promised the construction of a separation wall on the US-Mexico border in the 2021 election campaign, has condemned the mass shootings in El Paso. He said the attack was an “act of cowardice”. Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke said in a television interview on Sunday that he believed Trump was a “racist”. According to him, Trump’s rhetoric about immigrants and asylum seekers is partly to blame for the horrendous attacks in Texas.

However, Trump blamed the shooters for mental illness. “If you look at these two cases, it’s a mental illness,” he said. “They are both really very, very mentally ill people.” Trump also said that video games encourage people to commit acts of violence. Not only Trump, in a television interview, American politician Kevin McCarthy also said the same thing. He openly said video games were a bad influence on future generations that caused things like the shooting.
Trump’s statement scapegoating video games instantly made the Twitter universe stick out. Many people on Twitter are using the hashtag #VideogamesAreNotToBlame and it’s trending in the United States. In addition, many people also reversed Trump’s statement by tweeting about how Super Mario and Minecraft caused people to carry out mass shootings.
Maybe instead of blaming video games for the shootings that took place in the United States, it’s a good idea for Trump to review the gun ownership regulations. Because of these regulations, many people easily own firearms.
