Assassin's Creed Creator Says He's Disappointed with His Current Franchise Position

It is common knowledge that Assassin’s Creed is one of the biggest AAA game franchises today. Starting as an experimental successor to Prince of Persia, who would have thought if his name developed far to become Ubisoft’s favorite franchise. More than a decade has passed and Assassin’s Creed has gone through many changes, where the last three games have shifted to the concept of an open world RPG and no longer have a really dominant attachment to the “Assassin” theme itself.

Many circles, especially veteran fans, can’t accept the new changes to the franchise, even including Patrice Désilets who is the creator and director of the first few Assassin’s Creed games. Through a recent interview with PC Gamer media, Desilets gave interesting conversation material including when he was still the director of the original series, which at that time they didn’t even know what “Assassin’s Creed game” was.

Désilets later said that he was disappointed with the approach of the latest AAA games that move away from the unique stealth system, such as "Social Crowd" which is very typical in the first Assassin's Creed game.

Désilets later said that he was disappointed with the approach of the latest AAA games that shied away from unique stealth systems, such as the “Social Crowd” which was very typical in the classic games. This is understandable because AAA game developers in today’s era require much higher development costs and are ambitious, so they want to make sure that the games they make can match the tastes of the market.

If they decide to implement a system that they feel is too old and no longer considered attractive, then that’s when they will lose both competition and interest from their fans. In the end, it all comes down to the profit factor when we talk about the AAA project, especially how the game must also be able to follow the potential and busy trend. But it will also mean a lot to fans if Assassin’s Creed can return to its classic roots with a concept approach that can be even more unique.

So what do you think of Assassin’s Creed’s current position? Does Ubisoft need to revert to a closer theme to the previous series?
