Promising Quality? The Trails of Cold Steel Anime Adaptation Joins Funimation

In addition to sharing a myriad of new details from the game The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki that we summarized yesterday, Falcom also brought a big surprise from their 40th anniversary celebration which was held yesterday. Through a special livestream session that was broadcast last night, Falcom announced that they are preparing an anime adaptation project for the Trails of Cold Steel series.

This project was carried out by a collaboration of four companies namely UserJoy Technology, Funimation Global Group, SYOU, and NADA Holdings. Although the studio that produced it has not been announced, one detail that caught our attention the most was Famitsu’s involvement in this adaptation project. The reason itself is because Famitsu has a very positive track record as a production house as well as a licensor for many popular anime such as My Hero Academia, Shingeki no Kyojin, Kimi no Na wa, Re: Zero, One Piece, Code Geass, and many more.

It should be noted that the 2011 anime adaptation of Trails in the Sky (Sora no Kiseki) has actually been handled by a reliable studio, Kinema Citrus. It’s just that the quality of their adaptation has only grown rapidly in the following years, including the adaptation of Made in Abyss and The Rising of Shield Hero. Especially with the large-scale adaptation that Falcom has prepared for the four Trails of Cold Steel game series, there is a possibility that they will put more focus on ensuring the best quality.

Talking about the anime adaptation, Toshihiro Kondo as the leader of Falcom gave a signal that the storyline will be packaged in an original format, which means there will be a portion of the story and even new characters added to the anime. As for the release schedule, the anime will begin airing in 2022 with new information that will be shared periodically.
