Bloodborne Game Review - GameStation
Even though it is famous for its high level of difficulty, the Souls series by FromSoftware is actually able to attract the attention of gamers thanks to its very challenging gameplay. Now, through his newest game, Bloodborne, the developer is trying to create a similar style of play but with a slightly different form. And the result is outstanding!!
The Chilling Atmosphere of Yharnam
Bloodborne tells the story of the adventures of a Hunter who is trying to find a substance called Paleblood in Yharnam, a gothic city that is hit by a mysterious plague and is able to turn its sufferers into vicious monsters. And at the beginning of the game, gamers will immediately find out how scary the city is through its quiet and eerie atmosphere without any signs of life, except for a number of residents and ferocious monsters who are trying to take your life. It turned out that all of that succeeded in building the feel of horror offered by Bloodborne, and forced gamers to continue to be aware of the dangers that always lurk in every corner of the city.
But the course of the game does not only dwell on the streets of the city of Yharnam, because you can also visit various other places that are no less scary. Starting from the Forbidden Woods which is inhabited by various ferocious monsters, Iosefka’s Clinic with blood splattered everywhere, to the Cathedral Ward which seems majestic and mystical at the same time. FromSoftware deserves thumbs up because it succeeded in creating a place setting with an environment that is not only artistic and varied, but all of them are able to “work together” to create a thick tense atmosphere.
More Aggressive Combat
The battles in Demon’s Souls and Dark Soul are presented at a slow pace, where gamers usually play defensively by using block and attack tactics when dealing with enemies. Even though you can dodge by rolling, the movement is not fast so you need the right timing so that your position is not in the opponent’s attack path. But in Bloodborne, the fight is more dynamic because even though you can’t block your opponent’s attack, your hero is equipped with faster evasive maneuvers (eg side-step). This makes it easier for gamers to avoid enemy attacks and take advantage of their open defenses to launch counter-attack.
To support the fast battle tempo, Bloodborne also presents Trick Weapon as your main weapon which has 2 attack modes. An example is the Saw Cleaver which in the first mode has a short attack range, but can turn into a weapon with a longer range. Or Kirkhammer, a giant hammer capable of dealing great damage but slow movement and can turn into a sword that has a high attack speed even though the damage is not large. By combining the two modes that each Trick Weapon has, gamers can create powerful combo attacks that can kill your opponent quickly.
No less interesting is the emergence of the Regain System where you can “reclaim” some of the health that has been reduced due to enemy attacks. Once the opponent’s attack enters, gamers have little time to launch a counterattack where if successful, some of the reduced health will return. The presence of this feature encourages players to fight aggressively, because that’s how they can defeat enemies quickly and survive in the world of Bloodborne. Combined with the ability to stun opponents (also generate damage) through the use of firearms such as Pistols, Blunderbuss and others, all of these are provisions that you must use while in the game.
But Wait, There’s More!!
FromSoftware doesn’t just stop at creating an exciting single player campaign, because they’ve also included a variety of interesting game features into Bloodborne. One of them is the presence of a multiplayer mode, where you can summon other players to help you defeat boss characters and enemies that come in large numbers. Not only for cooperative purposes, each player can also invade other players’ games and finish them off!! Indeed, this can be prevented by eradicating certain NPCs who will be the hosts, but the presence of this feature will certainly add to the liveliness of the game.
In addition, there is also the Chalice Dungeon, additional content in the form of various dungeons that you can explore to obtain a variety of unique items and equipment. Because it is randomly generated, gamers will encounter different obstacles and challenges (including an optional boss character) every time they enter it, so they will not feel bored even if they are visited many times. So, for those of you who want to know which games can provide interesting challenges, we can be sure that Bloodborne is the answer you’ve been looking for all this time.
