Gundam Officially Gets Its First Live-Action Movie from Netflix

Regardless of whether you are a mecha fan or not, the name Gundam must be familiar. One of Japan’s biggest media franchises, it has had great success over the decades, from the dominance of toy sales to other media projects. One of the most eye-catching projects in the franchise has always had something to do with anime to movies, and coincidentally today there is a big surprise that has been prepared by Netflix to answer it.

The surprise was the announcement of director Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ first live-action Gundam film. For those of you who don’t know him, Roberts is a well-known director who was previously involved in the films The Kings of Summer, Nick Offerman: American Ham, and Kong: Skull Island. He also happens to be handling the film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid through a collaboration with Derek Connolly.

There was also an announcement that the Legendary Entertainment studio would collaborate with SUNRISE to work on the adaptation, and this plan has been going on for several years. Ken Iyadomi as the leader of SUNRISE said that the key to making Gundam accepted in the Hollywood realm depended on the popularity of Pacific Rim. Gundam itself is a media franchise with a longer history and already has high popularity, so it seems there is no problem if it is related to reception and fan interest.

Apart from the brief announcement above, unfortunately Netflix has not been able to share much information including the estimated release date of the film, the concept of the story, and other details about the film. So for the time being, fans can only patiently wait until there is another new update which may take quite a while from now on.
