LINE SQUARE, a Chat Feature for the Community from LINE

Today, LINE Corporation officially launched LINE SQUARE, a new and anonymous community chat feature, in Indonesia and Korea.

LINE SQUARE allows users with similar interests to connect with each other while maintaining user privacy. Users can join the conversation or chat without having to reveal their identity first—allowing them to express their thoughts and opinions on topics such as culinary, hobbies, sports, and music more openly and freely.

“LINE SQUARE is the ideal service to represent our mission which is ‘Closing the Distance’. This feature brings users closer based on their interests, then engages in immersive conversations.” Seokho Yang, Product Manager of LINE SQUARE. “LINE has developed into a social platform where users can meet other users who have the same interests just by searching for certain keywords. LINE SQUARE also allows users to join in chatroom by using nicknames, which can encourage users to chat freely and share stories,”

The LINE SQUARE logo will appear on the friend list or timeline after LINE users in Indonesia or Korea update their LINE application to the latest version. By using LINE SQUARE, users can create and join a community called “Square” which consists of various topics. Each Square does not limit the number of users who wish to join and users do not need to share their personal information or even their LINE ID when selecting a profile photo and nickname in a chatroom. Users can invite other users to join Square by using a URL or QR code. Each chatroom can accommodate up to 5,000 members. In addition, users can also join the chatroom they want

LINE has implemented various security measures and countermeasures to ensure the comfort and safety of all LINE SQUARE users. For example, users can report sensitive and inappropriate content in the form of text, images and videos. In addition, LINE SQUARE also has an internal monitoring system in the form of automatic filters on sensitive words and can report users who upload inappropriate content.

LINE also plans to launch LINE SQUARE in other Southeast Asian countries, including Taiwan, and Thailand, in the near future.
