News about PlayStation 5 being used for mining turns out to be fake

It doesn’t feel like we’ve entered a few months since the arrival of the new generation of consoles, and who would have thought if the hype that gamers managed to build felt much more dominant in this generation. Especially for the PlayStation 5, where this console is still very rare and hard to find due to unstable stock availability. Most of the people who get the console certainly use the PlayStation 5 as a mainstay gaming platform, but who would have thought if there were people who used this console for an unusual activity, namely “Mining”.

Reported from the media Tendency Gadgets, they found a Chinese citizen who had successfully conducted an experiment and used the console to mine Ethereum. Through uploading the latest screenshot from user @RacingSence, he proved that the PlayStation 5 can indeed be used for mining with a performance that reaches 98.76 MH/s with a power consumption of 211W.

So far the information shared does sound legit, at least until some sources find a QR Code in the screenshot and try to check it. After researching, it turns out that the QR Code only contains the message “there is no software like this hahaha”. This fake story may indeed be made for entertainment purposes only.

Although fairly creative, the practice of mining using a special entertainment platform such as a console sounds ironic. If the exploit proves to be successful, it is not impossible that there will be many people who buy the PlayStation 5 for mining needs instead of playing games. This also does not add to the risk of the increasingly severe console scarcity.

For those of you who are interested in buying the console, the PlayStation 5 is now officially marketed in Indonesia. Stock availability is still very limited and only serves those who have pre-ordered, so make sure to check out your favorite game store to secure the available slots. Besides being available in a standard version that comes with a disc drive, there is also a digital version that is set at a more affordable price.
