Nintendo Releases New Console, Ready to Dive into Esports?
After almost a year and a half since Nintendo announced its newest console project, yesterday Nintendo released a trailer about its newest console called Nintendo Switch. The device which is planned to be released in March 2017 will carry the concept of…
A portable hybrid platform where this console can be simultaneously mounted on a connector to connect it to a larger television screen. However, when playing on the road, players can remove the tablet-like device from the dock and install additional controllers on the right and left sides of the tablet.
Made as big as a tablet connected to a device called a ‘Joy-Con’ on both sides. Joy-Con can be removed and taken anywhere. Joy-Con is equipped with identical and analog buttons divided into four buttons, can be used to play with friends; one controller for the first player and another controller for the second player. In other words Nintendo Switch owners can play local multiplayer.
From the trailer released by Nintendo yesterday, something caught the attention of esports fans. At 2:39 minutes the video shows four people discussing the strategy of the Splatoon game on the blackboard, and switching to another group also doing the same thing by writing the strategy on paper and then both teams walking to the stadium full of cheering fans.
There is another scenario in the video that shows a group of people playing a basketball game with Nintendo Switch devices. Seeing this, there is a lot of speculation from the esports community who think that Nintendo will soon enter the realm of competitive gaming, moreover the presence of the Nintendo Switch will certainly be supported by many game publishers.
Some are positive but many are concerned as they worry that Nintendo’s intentions in esports will not line up with the company’s gaming community at large. For info, Super Smash Bros. Melee is a game made by Nintendo which is currently still being competed in several esports events.
