Oculus Quest launches as Oculus' Newest all-in-one VR gaming system

Oculus has just launched a new VR headset called Oculus Quest. This wireless VR unit sits between the two and a half year old Oculus Go and Oculus Rift. The device is designed for gaming using tracking to map rooms and has Oculus Touch-like console sensitivity.

The Oculus Quest is introduced as the latest in the Oculus generation of devices. By positioning itself as a game-focused device developer that is not tied to PCs, cables, or sensors, it is a system that is ahead of the Oculus Go.

It is the best choice for those who want to experience a VR experience without having to deal with PC based VR systems.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that “with Oculus Quest, we will complete the first generation of Oculus products.” Zuckerberg said that the Oculus Quest combines “key attributes of an ideal VR system” – wireless design, virtual hand control, and full position tracking. “If we can bring all three of these qualities into one product, we think it will be the foundation of a new generation of VR.”

The Oculus Quest is the consumer version of what was previously known as Project Santa Cruz. The device uses motion controllers similar to the Oculus Touch, and four wide-angle cameras provide positional tracking that allows people to walk through virtual spaces. It should support a “Rift-quality” experience, with an initial catalog of over 50 titles, including well-known existing games like the climbing simulator The Climb and the puzzle-adventure game Moss. Oculus VR creator Hugo Barra describes the Oculus Quest as “made for games,” differentiating it from the rest of Oculus, by focusing more on mobile video headsets. “We will invest significantly in this new platform,” he said.

Oculus Quest is priced at $399 or Rp. 5,944,960.35.
