EA Delays Work on New Need for Speed, Focus on Battlefield

Recently, Electronic Arts has asked Criterion Games which is working on the Need for Speed project to build EA DICE which is developing the next Battlefield game.

Furthermore, EA’s decision to delay the work on Need for Speed had to be made for several reasons.

EA Asks Criterion Games to Work on New Battlefield Series

Based on a report from Polygon, they say that DICE will likely have to ask Criterion Games for help with Battlefield development. This game, which has not yet received a title and is planned for a fall release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, requires extra effort.

Furthermore, EA confirmed that Criterion Games will re-develop the Need for Speed title in 2022. EA asked Criterion to work with DICE on their next Battlefield project. This decision had to be taken due to working conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition, EA’s acquisition of Codemasters some time ago made them have a racing game title that was released this year. EA Studio Head Laura Miele told Polygon that franchise Battlefield and Need for Speed are in trouble.

It’s impossible for us to make a decision like this without including (Criterion Games) in the discussion. They (Criterion) have been working on Star Wars Battlefront as well as Battlefield, so it’s not wrong to ask them to help DICE.

Not the First Time

For your information, this is not the first time Criterion Games has assisted DICE in the development of Battlefield. In 2018, the UK-based studio co-worked on Battlefield V with DICE.

So, it’s no wonder why EA asked Criterion Games to help develop the Battlefield game together with DICE. In addition, this studio’s experience working on Action games is also quite good. Evidently, they also had a hand in the development of Star Wars Battlefront in 2016 and 2017.

Of course, it will be interesting to see how the Criterion Games work together with DICE.
