NBA Legend Magic Johnson Buys Majority Of Team Liquid


Team Liquid reportedly sold its majority stake to the AXiomatic group, which also owns the Golden State Warriors, Washington Capitals and Los Angeles Dodgers sports clubs. NBA legend Magic Johnson is known to be one of the investors in AXiomatic.

Despite selling its majority stake, Team Liquid’s management team Steve Arhancet and its founder Victor Goosens will remain in management. In its press release, aXiomatic said that the company has been looking for a way into the Esports field for almost a year.

“Ten months ago when we started this process, our goal was to find the perfect mix of teams and strategic ownership groups to build a unique Esports company. We hope the experience and reputation of Steve Arhancet and Victor Goosens can lift this organization even further” . said aXiomatic CEO Bruce Stein.

As we all know, the interest of sports figures to enter the world of esports is growing lately. Former NBA players who invested in esports are Rick Fox who founded the Echo Fox team and Shaquille O’Neal who is also one of the owners of NRG eSports.

Likewise, the Boston Celtics players who acquired the Renegades team and just yesterday we read the news that the Philadelphia 76ers basketball club officially entered the field of esports by acquiring 2 esports organizations, namely Team Dignitas and Apex.

A little info, Team Liquid has a roster of League of Legends, CS:GO, Dota 2, Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, StarCraft II and Overwatch. In The International 2016 tournament, Liquid’s Dota 2 roster was in 7-8 position, while the CSGO team was runner-up in ESL One: Cologne last July.
