EVO Championship Series Now Officially Joins the PlayStation Family

Sony Interactive Entertainment brings again big news after they together with RTS managed to become the owner of the Evolution Championship Series (EVO), which is the biggest fighting game tournament in the world. Through this partnership, Tony and Tom Cannon, the co-founders of EVO, will continue to play their role in ensuring a fighting game competition that can unite communities around the world.

Even though it is in Sony’s hands, the competition will still be open to all platforms, because the purpose of this collaboration is to advance the competitive gaming community to become more dominant.

The EVO event itself happens to be held again this year through Evo Online, which is a new competition event with online access that will begin to be held from 6 to eight and 13 to 15 August. This is certainly the right moment to re-unite the fighting game community who had missed the previous event due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Steven Roberts, who is the deputy head of Global Competitive Gaming at SIE, commented that fighting games have become a vital part of the history of PlayStation and how the early community was formed. Roberts revealed that Sony has been trying to realize this collaboration for years, until finally they and RTS have succeeded in collaborating with EVO and its leaders.

Stuart Saw who is the CEO of RTS also added that EVO is a fighting game community that is unique and very iconic compared to others. They expressed their pride in being able to work with SIE and EVO representatives to further advance their community.

Additional information regarding acquisition costs, ownership sharing, and other important details was not disclosed to the public due to the contractual agreement that has been agreed.
