Left Alive, Spin-Off From the Front Mission Series
In a press conference held by Sony Interactive Entertainment before the Tokyo Game Show 2017 started, Square Enix showcased one of the games his latest title, Left Alive through a teaser trailer. After that, there was almost no further information from the developer about the project under development for some time. But going into 2018, Square Enix stated that Left Alive is still “alive”, and provided some info about games that carry the genre “survival action shooter” this.
The Story
Games which is spin-off from this Front Mission game series takes settings time in December 2127, between Front Mission 5 and Front Mission Evolved. Suddenly, the Garmoniya Republic declared war on its neighboring country, the Ruthenia Republic by attacking Novo Slava, a city on the border. Unprepared for the sudden attack, the Ruthenian armed forces stationed in the city were easily crushed.
But the war experienced by those who were still surviving after the Garmoniya Republic attack began. And they are Mikhail Alexandrovich Shuvalov, Olga Sergevna Kalinina, and Leonid Fedorovich Osterman, the three main protagonists who must survive in an event called “One Day Incident”.
The Protagonists
* Mikhail Alexandrovich Shuvalov
A pilot mecha nicknamed Wanzer from the Ruthenia Army’s Second Mobile Platoon who has high skills. While defending Novo Slava, his troops faced off against the strongest Wanzer troops belonging to the Garmoniya Army and suffered a crushing defeat, causing his Wanzers to suffer heavy damage. Now Mikhail finds himself isolated from his comrades, in territory controlled by the enemy.
* Olga Sergevna Kalinina
A former Wanzer pilot in the Garmoniya Army who turned police in Novo Slava, after losing his daughter in a bloody conflict between the military and civil society when joining the Novo Slava liberation front.
* Leonid Fedorovich Osterman
Initially working as a mercenary, Leonid became one of the most influential members of the Novo Slava liberation front, the NGFP. He was accused of being the perpetrator of the murder of the head of the NGFP and sentenced to death, but for some reason Leonid was only sent to prison. The Garmoniya Army’s attack gave him a way to break free.
Behind Enemy Lines
Left Alive invites players to experience war through the three main protagonists namely Mikhail, Olga, and Leonid, where being in enemy territory makes all three of them have to do everything possible to survive. There are limitations resources such as bullets force players to avoid direct confrontation with large numbers of enemies, as well as apply tactics stealth and use traps to knock out opponents. It should be noted that although more risky, gamer can also do a frontal attack, especially after stealing the enemy’s Wanzer.
Based on information, crafting system become one of the features included in the gameplay, where later players can create various types items needed to survive in war. It says that Left Alive will not display leveling system or development skills.
Left Alive gives freedom to gamer to complete objectives given, but based on the method taken and the choices made (one of which is when dialogue with NPCs) then players will encounter different story developments.
According to the schedule, Left Alive will be released for the first time in Japan on February 28 at platform PC and PlayStation 4, but has no official launch date outside of Japan yet. In addition to being available in the standard edition, there is also a Left Alive Ultimate Edition priced at 25,000 containing one copy of the game, an artbook containing concept art by Kojima Productions staff, namely Yoji Shinkawa (character design) and Takayuki Yanase (mechanic designer), Special Soundtrack CD containing songs -a song composed by composer Hidenori Iwasaki, and Wanzer type “Volk” which is the central element of the storyline.
