Blending Two Different “Taste”
Basically Tokyo Mirage Sessions (TMS) is a Shin Megami Tensei game with a Fire Emblem “spice”. Just look at the storyline, which tells of the emergence of threats from dark creatures nicknamed Mirage who try to suck Performance, the creative energy possessed by humans – especially entertainers, and anyone who is sucked in will live in despair. Here you play as a number of characters who struggle against them under the guise of the Fortuna Entertainment talent agency, assisted by the kind-hearted Mirage whose appearance is based on a number of famous characters in the Fire Emblem series.

Those of you who follow the Shin Megami Tensei series must be familiar with plots like this: a number of characters team up with good demons to defeat the evil demons, plus the ability to recruit some of them through battle. However, in terms of gameplay, TMS has a very strong Fire Emblem feel thanks to the presence of various game features that are always used in the series such as the class system (which can be mastered), the weapon triangle system where one type of weapon is superior and weak when faced with other types of weapons. specific weapons, the ability to upgrade weapons and skills, and much more.

Although it must be admitted that there are a number of shortcomings, including the long loading time, the developer managed to combine the two styles with the right portion so as to make TMS look attractive.

Satisfying RPG Elements
As already mentioned, both Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem have their own complex game features, so that if the two are combined, gamers will certainly find many things to learn. Well, that’s indeed what you will experience when playing Tokyo Mirage Sessions where in addition to managing various characters in party members – setting the class, weapons and skills you want to use and so on, Mirage being used as their partner is also an important thing that we must do. manage. But for those who really like the RPG genre, we can be sure that all of these are actually interesting challenges to complete because even though it requires a great focus, it will all pay off when you see your party members are able to defeat even formidable enemies.

The superior feature in TMS is the combination of attacks that are displayed in 2 different skills, namely Session Attack and Duo Arts. For the first, by exploiting the weaknesses of each enemy – another thing that is also no less interesting to do during the battle – then other characters can launch follow-up attacks. In order for these skills to appear, you have to pay close attention to the magic spell and the type of weapon that is the enemy’s weakness, and although at first it must be difficult to do but over time we can memorize the weaknesses of every enemy in the game. Seeing the three party members launch attacks in succession certainly gives its own satisfaction!!

Meanwhile, the next feature is Duo Arts, which occurs randomly, combining two specific characters in a powerful attack that is capable of dealing massive damage. Slightly different from Session Art, this move is only available after you encounter a special event when clearing side-quests for each character and not learned. Because each attack has its own unique animation, the presence of this “deadly duet” can be entertainment in itself; for example, Mamori and Tiki’s super cute Love for You moves, Touma and Eleonora’s Crazy Circus that can make gamers smile, to Touma and Yashiro’s awesome Last Rampage.

Oh yes, as previously mentioned, we can also set up Mirage who is your partner and that becomes a lot of fun in itself. Having a look like various characters from the Fire Emblem series (although they look darker), their role in battle is not small because these Mirage will turn into weapons plus provide various skills for their partners to use. And by increasing its class via Master Seal, gamers can choose one of 2 new classes for your Mirage which is equipped with its own skills. It’s fun tinkering with these features to find the right combination to create the strongest party!!

Like Watching Idol Performance
One thing that may have a different effect for each player is the thick Japanese idol pop culture in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. Just look at the battle in the game, almost all of which take place on stage like a show, especially coupled with various skills and other features such as Concert and the presence of a number of songs. The atmosphere presented is not much different from, let’s take, for example, watching a JKT48 concert but with more action.

On the one hand, Shin Megami Tensei fans who often encounter unique game themes – just look at Persona 5, which has the theme of thieves – certainly respond to this in a relaxed manner. However, fans of the Fire Emblem series, who usually come with a more serious feel, feel different things, who feel that the inclusion of idol pop culture in the Tokyo Mirage Session theme makes the game too “light”. Even so, it cannot be denied that TMS is an interesting RPG to try.
