Wild Rift Tips for Other MOBA Players from a Redditor
Each MOBA has its own uniqueness in their gameplay. MOBA features and developers themselves will produce a ‘meta’ that is often followed by players in the MOBA. In all likelihood, the only way to see a team play in a different way than the usual meta is simply if they’re playing in a 5-man team who wants to try new ways.
While these metas or habits help players to follow the flow of a game without having to think about their every move, sometimes they also limit a player’s adaptability. The problem that arises is if someone who often plays MOBA A uses their meta and habits in MOBA B. It’s even more problematic if this player doesn’t take suggestions from other players and will eventually destroy their team’s chances of winning.
Here are tips from Redditor ‘Ero_Ninja’ based on his experience playing Wild Rift with players coming from other MOBAs.
Jungle belongs to Jungler
Wild Rift and its predecessor, League of Legends, have a special role as the Jungler. Their job is to kill monsters to get XP and roam from lane to lane looking for gank opportunities. In order to get enough XP to be able to gank, the Jungler must kill quite a number of camp monsters, including blue and red buff monsters.
During the laning phase, all other summoners should assume that all jungle monsters belong to the Jungler. Even if the Jungler uses a champion off-meta, they still have the right to buff monsters because that’s their role. After the laning phase ends, the champions with the most impact in the game can take their buffs, as this will help the team win the game.
Midlaner; One in Each Team and Not Just Mage
In Wild Rift each game always starts with one champion going to Baron Lane, two to Dragon Lane, one to Jungle, and one to Mid Lane. These positions were found organically in the early years of League of Legends, and since then Riot has started pushing updates that amplify these positions in its meta.
Especially Mid Lane in Wild Rift and League is 1v1 lane. Maybe the Jungler will gank in Mid Lane, but after the gank is over (and maybe attack the turret at the right time) Jungler should immediately leave the lane. This is because Mid Laners in Wild Rift have high snowball potential if they gain a level advantage over opposing champions. Because of this a different laning position like 1-3-1 will not work well in Wild Rift.
Although maybe at first team A using 1-3-1 can defeat Team B’s solo Mid Laner, he will return to the lane and play passively to gain levels by using spell wave clear At the end of the laning phase, Team B’s Mid Laner will have a level that equal or higher than the trilane of team A. Meanwhile, Jungler team B will get more XP and ganking opportunities freely.
Lastly is the flexibility of choosing the type of champion that can be played in Mid Lane. In Wild Rift, Mid Laner usually uses Mage or Assassin. Even in the League, several Fighter and Marksman champions have been played in Mid Lane.
ADC Can’t Carry Alone in Late Game
In Wild Rift and League, champion marksman is balanced by thin HP and weakness against champions who can jump into their position. For example, champion assassins like Zed can issue their combo against a marksman and they are likely to die or at least be seriously injured.
Marksman in other MOBAs may not have this problem and can survive more easily in the late game because it is Marksman’s job as a carry/ADC to deal damage in that phase of the game. Champion Marksman in Wild Rift can indeed deal high damage in the late game, but they must be protected and positioned themselves properly to be able to continue dealing damage.
Wards is a Legal Map Hack
Vision is an important part of Wild Rift which is not a common thing for all MOBA players. All champions in the same team, turret, and the area around the base will provide vision to all players on the team, while all other areas will be dark covered by fog of war.
Another part of Wild Rift that gives vision is Ward. All summoners have access to a limited number of Wards (or activate Sweepers if they trade at the fountain). Once placed, Ward will provide vision in a small area for all players on the same team.
Ward’s usefulness cannot be underestimated. From placing it in a normal gank lane to be safe from opposing junglers, to placing it behind the opposing team to teleport, all summoners must learn to use Wards properly. Not using Wards can tell the difference between life and death in Wild Rift.
The last tip is when destroying the opponent’s Ward, make sure there are no enemies in the area around your champion. Some opposing champions may be waiting in a brush right next to the Ward which will serve as bait.
