Facebook Gaming Scores 345 Million Hours of Total Watch Time, Twitch Reaches 1.4 Billion Hours in July 2020

Twitch & Facebook Gaming viewership numbers up more than 50% in Q2 2020

In the midst of a global pandemic, the development of the esports world shows no signs of slowing down. On the contrary, esports is gaining very significant growth with more and more people staying at home.

A few days ago, one of the battle-royale android games Free Fire sets a record of 100 million daily active players.

This development can also be seen in livestreaming applications such as Twitch and Facebook Gaming, according to a report from StreamElements and Arsenal.gg.

Compared to Q1 2020, Twitch viewership grew 60% in June, with Just Chat being the most popular category, followed by League of Legends and Fortnite.

Along with this increase in the number of views, the total duration of videos watched increased rapidly, with a peak in April 2020.

From StreamElements data, one of the interesting things is that some of these games have experienced a decrease in the number of viewership.

While the percentage drop was insignificant for most of these games, the total watch hours of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive fell by 90%, from 72 million to 38 million. On the other hand, the latest FPS game, Valorant, has increased by 5%, has almost reached 50 million hours of watch duration, and is ranked above CS:GO.

Facebook Gaming Reaches a Record of 345 Million Total Video Hours Watched

In 2020, Facebook gaming experienced a major development in the world of esports. Although the number of viewership is not comparable to Twitch, the total hours of Facebook Gaming is up 215% compared to July 2019, and 75% compared to Q1.

At the end of July 2020, Facebook Gaming reached a new record with a total video duration of 345 million views. Meanwhile, Twitch has experienced a slight decline since April.

In addition, at the end of July, Facebook Gaming took the opportunity to develop further through a partnership with Mixer.

Mixer is one of the popular livestreaming services held by Microsoft. Last year, the company signed contracts with two of the biggest streamers – Ninja and Shroud, and managed to attract the attention of the gamer community around the world.

Unfortunately, the StreamElements data this time does not report the development of Youtube Gaming. However, according to a statement from the livestreaming company, Youtube Gaming “is also experiencing a massive increase from month to month.”
