Natus Vincere Officially Withdraws From ONE Esports Dota 2 Major Singapore

Team NaVi (Natus Vincere) was forced to make the decision to skip the One Esports Major Dota 2 Singapore tournament. After trying to replace his team’s roster that was positive for COVID 19, the player who was called as a substitute later also contracted the Corona virus.

An additional player has tested positive for COVID-19 and other issues impact potential substitutes. Just hours after beastcoast announced that the Dota 2 roster would not be participating in the ONE Esports Dota 2 Major, Natus Vincere also withdrew from the tournament that was to be held in Singapore.

The Ukraine-based esports organization stated that after two of their players tested positive for COVID-19, it affected the roster plus other factors that forced the No. 2 CIS regional it to opt out.

The NaVi team previously confirmed that Bogdan “Iceberg” Vasilenko and captain Andrii “ALWAYS WANT” Bondarenko tested positive for COVID-19 and said the team will use stand-ins/substitutes for the Major. Initially, former Virtus Pro and Evil Geniuses player Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarev and roster coach, Andrey “Mag” Chipenko, were going to fill the slots but it doesn’t look like that will have any effect.

In his latest blog post, Na’Vi revealed that Mag also tested positive for COVID after the initial announcement and he contacted the rest of the roster during boot camp. Some of the players had high fevers for the last few days.

As a result, Na’Vi contacted the tournament organizers and confirmed that the team would need to self-quarantine before traveling, which would have prevented them from competing in the Major. The organization is also concerned that quarantines in foreign countries could prevent some players from returning in time to compete in the next season’s Dota Pro Circuit.

Na’Vi had an initial conversation with one of his former players, Nikola “LeBronDota” Popović, about replacing Mag at the event as he had not yet competed in the Upper Division and was therefore eligible to play with the team. But the flight was canceled due to technical reasons, and with a limited deadline and other issues, the organization decided to withdraw completely. The NaVi team also stated that they chose to focus on restoring health and preparations for the CIS regional DPC.

Unfortunately, NaVi’s decision also seems to coincide with the departure of RAMZES to Singapore. That is, RAMZES has no team to play with. NaVi’s withdrawal. One of the best players in the world will attend the Major as a free agent for any team that needs a last-minute stand-in.

As reported a few hours earlier, the Beastcoast team, the Upper Division SA champion as well as the representative from the South American region, also finally announced their absence from the Singapore Major. This started when one of the team members, Steven Vargas Mamani or Stinger, tested positive for Covid last week. Even though Beastcoast’s players are declared safe, management doesn’t seem willing to take risks with the length and distance of the flight.

Now with two teams off the initial roster, organizers Valve, ONE Esports, and PGL will likely need to make some changes to the event schedule and match system.
