Naughty Dog Apologizes for Plagiarizing Songs for The Last of Us Part 2!

Not long ago, Naughty Dog as the developer of The Last of Us Part 2 has officially released a trailer with a duration of approximately 1 minute. In the one-minute trailer, we can hear a snippet of a song called “True Faith” sung by voice actor Ellie – Ashley Johnson.

This song can be said to be very suitable and in line with the animation of Ellie’s struggle which looks charming and shows her action to survive from the Infected and the group of humans who are trying to finish her off. But it turns out, unfortunately this trailer turned out to invite controversy itself.

The Last of Us Part 2 plagiarized someone’s song

Where Naughty Dog is currently accused of plagiarizing the song “True Faith” cover version of singer named Lotte Kestner without permission. “True Faith” itself is not an original song by Lotte Kestner. In fact, the song licensing process should lead to an old band called New Order who first created this song in 1987.

However, for gamers who have heard the slower and darker version of Ellie’s singing, the resemblance to Lotte Kestner’s cover version is undeniable. This has even been directly criticized by Kestner via Twitter, whose current tweet has been deleted since last week, as a result, Naughty Dog spoke up about this issue.

Naughty Dog apologizes to the singer

Through Creative Director – Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog apologized and said that the controversy that occurred was entirely their negligence. She admits that Ellie’s song “True Faith” was inspired by Lotte Kestner’s cover and she apologized for their failure to give the proper recognition to Kestner.

They would give Kestner the assurances he deserved. This was immediately responded by Kestner through his Twitter tweet very positively, where he thanked Neil, Naughty Dog, and Sony for choosing the music. The Last of Us Part II itself is planned to be released on June 19, 2020, exclusively for Playstation 4. What do you think? Give your feedback below.
