[Special TGS 2021] First impression of Kill La Kill The Game IF

Simple and Bombastic

Visuals are arguably the main focus for this anime fighting game. The gameplay presented is fairly simple with attacks only centered on a few buttons, attacks are divided into two, namely melee and ranged, and both of them go straight to the enemy when we press it. It feels like the combat presented here is made simple so that the fight feels fast and, unfortunately, the simple control scheme makes the fight feel less varied because we only do the same attack over and over again. All things simplified by Arc but covered with various character variants. when we played the demo, there were only 4 characters that we could play, we chose Ryuko at that time and the staff who accompanied us to play chose us Gamagoori, and in the fight there were a few moments where Gamagoori’s character used his bondage regalia to hurt himself to the point where he can upgrade the form he uses. variations like this seem to be an advantage in this game, in addition to the large number of characters from the anime itself, it seems that each character will have a unique strength from the regalia they use.

One thing that is unique to Kill La Kill The Game is a special move that you can use when the power bar is fully charged by 50%. approaching the enemy and activating “Hisatsu” will move the fight to the game “Janken” mode where we bet with the enemy with Jan Ken Pong (Scissors, Rock, Paper), which is then followed by a typical anime punching scene, if you win 3 times and mini In this game, Hisatsu can be activated. Visuals are fairly ordinary when playing Janken, but this feature at the same time makes us think, is this mode really necessary for Kill La Kill. The battle which is fairly simple doesn’t necessarily turn out to be more complex because of this Janken mode. This mode also stops the fight, and makes winning and losing in the battle only centered on the Jankenpon game. we can’t deny but, being able to win this janken game and defeat the enemy with Hisatsu attack is very satisfying.

Although the gameplay is unfortunate, the visuals in this game really satisfy my heart, who used to love the Kill La Kill anime. according to the genre, Arc System and Trigger really show the best visuals from anime and put it all in the game. The character voices match each character, and the Regalia used by each character is no less cool in 3D.

Overall, from our experience trying the Kill La Kill the game demo, we are most satisfied with the visuals of the game, and quite disappointed with the gameplay. Maybe the variations of each character can change our view later after the game comes out.
